3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 ianwelby (203) - SCOTLAND - MAY 11, 2013
Black pint with a decent foamy head. Aroma is dark chocolate and a hint of malt.Livelier on the tongue than I expected and the taste is less sweet than I imagined. It doesn’t have as much body as you’d expect of a stout and the flavour isn’t as sweet as I anticipated, it’s surprisingly dry. Not at all what I thought it would be and possibly better for it. It’s not my favourite of this style but it’s quite drinkable all the same.

On cask at The Congress, Longton. Pours black with a tan head. Strong chocolate aroma but a very smooth stout. Chocolate, hops. A stout you can enjoy rather than the strong ones you have to fight with!

bottle Rehills Ncl. Rich bitter coffee & chocolate aroma, smooths out on the palate. Lovely carbonation on the tongue, the finish brings back the roast characteristics and wraps right around the throat. Pours nice & thick, black with a thin tan head. Very tasty.

From bar 3 at NWAF, handpump, half shared with Finn. Deep devil-black body. Headless, dotted spots to the glassware. Smell of cocoa and coffee. Flavour of cold coffee added by a nice roastiness. Bitter liquorice to the finish. Medium bodied. Likable (Manchester, 24.01.2013).

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jackl (2595) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 13, 2012
Cask @ CBC Clerkenwell, as a warm up for the now (in)famous 0-65% Tasting. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny head. The nose is sweet lactose, rich chocolate cake, sweet icing. Light roasted bitterness in the aroma. The taste is quite sweet. I get plenty of lactose, chocolate milk, mild toasted shredded coconut and a hefty amount of chocolate. I find the taste a bit unbalanced, and wouldn’t mind a little more bitterness in the profile of this beer. The body’s supple and smooth, this beer’s in nice condition. Overall, pretty decent.
