COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottled; Regular.

A surprisingly approachable smoked porter, velvet smooth with a robust malt backbone. This is infused with Chipotles to give even more smokiness and a subtle hint of heat, a real winter warmer.

33cl bottle. Dark ruby pour with a very tall and lively head. Smells smoky and a bit peated. Tastes bitter and smoky, with notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitter cherries and a bit of sourness. Very high carbonation with a fizzy mouthfeel.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como, bb Feb 2016
Black color with too much frothy beige head. Mild aroma of smoke, but it’s also a bit metallic. Very dry, moderately sour, roasty, and not much smoke. Excessively carbonated.
Still drinkable, but probably victim of a light infection, and refermented in the bottle.

Cask at The Earl Grey Inn, Leek. A deep ruby brown to black colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of smoked sausage, wood, slight coffee, a little caramel and subtle spicy hops. Taste of smoked wood, some coffee, slight chocolate, a little caramel, a subtle chilli burn (probably the chipotle) and late caramel. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A smokey finish with a soft chilli spiciness in the aftertaste. I think the smell really gives this beer a German Raushbier character then it hits you with the chilli. Very different to a normal porter. Really well conditioned, great.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 29 Aug 2015) Very dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with smoke, dark bread and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, smoke, dark chocolate and a dry finish with a balanced roasty bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well made with a balanced smokiness. Nice one.
