| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2006 On tap at the restaurant. Deep brown body, thin buff head. Aroma of milk chocolate and roasted malt with appropriate sweetness for the style. Creamy body dominated by roasted malt, chocolate, and unfermented sugars. Fairly simple. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2006 Sample at the brewpub: This brew is a flat black color with a medium creamy beige head that is gone pretty fast. Small blobs of lacing race down the sides of the glass. Roasted coffee and malt aroma. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture. Malt and coffee flavors dominate, and there is some dark chocolate behind it all. The finish is soft and sweet, with just a bit of coffee on the back end. Not a medal-winner in my book but pretty good. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Flavor is malty and hoppy. Roasty and sour notes. Finish is sour. Ok beer. Sour. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2006 22 oz bottle. Pours black with a bubbly dark tan head. Aroma isn’t very good though with a stale cheese thing going on. Really smooth and not as sour as the aroma leads on but there is some. There is no way this is the same beer that won a medal in Denver, let alone a medal anywhere. Tastes like a good cup of coffee that has cream thats just about to turn south. As it warms and I drink more, it’s really not that bad at all. aulectic (16), Grand Ledge, Michigan, USA

Still dark in color with minimal head and playful on the tongue. A nice break from the traditional stout flavors. DrnkMcDermott (1873), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2003 Business in Flint gave me a chance to do a “pubcrawl across Michigan.” Had to make this my first stop when I saw this beer was a 2003 GABF Gold Medalist. Yes! Creamy and roasty, not oily at all. Despite a good coffee flavor, the taste is somehow “light.” Its dark stout head just seems to add to the chewy texture. Worth the trip to discover this roomy brewpub/restaurant. (Additionally: The pub lists this beer as having 30 IBU's). hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA
