Bottle. Huge bubbly beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Hazy dark amber color. Aroma of toasted malt, nutty, yeast, fruit. Over the palate came alcohol, mild pepper-spicy, caramel. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and mild alcoholic and malty smooth texture. Moderated sweet flavor with hint of bitter and acidic notes. Sweet malty and mild spicy warming alcoholic finish. Quit nice.

Courtesy of Yespr. It’s a dark, brown-golden beer with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, candy sugar and berries. The flavour has sweetness, notes of spice, berries, roasted malt, candy sugar and it ends on a sweet, dry, spicy and slightly bitter note.

Ober (2807) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - JUN 14, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2009 A dark red, almost brown colored beer, with a nice beige foamed head. The aroma has some cherry and dark fruits in it. Also some malts. The taste is spicey, a little pepper. Roasted malts, dark fruits like prune, with a touch of cherry and notes of light chocolate. A little bitternes in the back. A long staying warm feeling. A very good Grand Cru.

Bottle. Pours a lovely red amber colour with a long-lasting thick cream-coloured foamy head. Looks smashing. Good aroma that brings to mind cake icing and fruit pastilles, with a dusty hint. The basis of the flavour is a rich fruitcake, malty flavour - all dried fruit and winter spices - with cinnamon and clove tinges. There is alcoholic warmth but it is not overdone. The palate is smooth and the taste lingers in the corners of your mouth. An enjoyable beer - I wish it came in bigger bottles!

ante (3374) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 6, 2008
Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in an almost cloudy brownish amber colour with a low creamy white foam. Fruity and yeasty aroma of almond paste, figs, raisins, cookies and berries. Really full-bodied with notes of figs, pepper, almond paste, dried oranges, brown sugar and cherry-skins. Long warming fruity and bit peppery finish of Seville oranges, figs, brown sugar, cayenne, raisins and mouth-frying alcohol. Tasty sipper for sure.

Bottle. Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, light to moderate hoppy and yeasty, brown sugar, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (250108)

MiP (13478) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - FEB 3, 2008
Bottle, 9.5%. Very malty aroma, dark malts, vinous, alcohol, dust, and a little dried fruit. Hazy red chestnut colour. Small, creamy tan head. The flavour is quite powerful, sweet dark malts, some yeast, hint of metal. Nicely warming aftertaste though slightly rough finish. OK balanced. High carbonation. Quite good, but not perfect.

DruncanVeasey (7098) - NUNEATON, Top 13, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 10, 2007
UPDATED: APR 8, 2010 This is a good one. Loads of liquorice and richly cakey sugar in the nose, with a spoonful of Baltic brine for good measure. Dark ruby blanketed with yellow. Big, smooth and narcotic. Head going nowhere. Thick like milk. Chewy, with seasonally appropriate boozy dark fruit, sticky fig and dusty cinnamon. Blood and liquorice. Chocolate silkiness, Twiglets, toffee. A note I can’t quite pinpoint belonging to Kasteel and Abbaye Des Rocs Brune. Brandy, cloves and more liquorice in there. Complex, enticingly mellow sipper ideal for fireside quaffing.
