UPDATED: JUL 28, 2009 33cl stubi bottle from Aarschot. Very pleasant beer but I thought its sweetness masked some of the other characteristics. Very good, just short of great.

Bottle. Medium hazy copper body, medium head. Aroma has sourish caramel with some strawberries and amaretto. Also very light notes of toffee. Nice and unique. Caramelly taste with more light toffee, amaretto and berries. Sweetish finish but not too sweet - not as cloying as many other 9.5% beers. Pretty good ale, has a distinctive character.

I was rather surprised by the unique aroma’s of this beer. I would describe it as a combination between Tripel, Amber Ale and a bit of Kriek. Very unique very well crafted!

33cl bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a beautiful creamy light beige head. Very good, complex aroma with caramel, molasses, roasted malts, sweet fruits (raisins, figs), some nuttiness. Taste is similar with a slightly acidic note before a light final bitterness. Medium body, too much carbonation. Almost no alcohol detectable despite the 9.5 ABV.

Stubby bottle 33cl. Clousy deep amber brown, big frothy beige head, disappears slowly, good lacing; a feast for the nose, sweet malty, roasted, figs, raisins, caramel, brown sugar, bit cacao, almonds, cinnamon; complex taste starts moderate sweet, followed by light to medium bitterness, roasted, caramel, fruity and nutty notes; full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, malty bittersweet finish, bit nutty, spicy notes, alcohol well-hidden; overall a well-balanced and great strong ale/barley wine.
