2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
50cl bottle in Berlin. Pours pale golden with a white head. Mild fruity and malty aroma with hints of hops and vegetables. Medium sweet with mild fruity and malty flavours and a very light bitterness in the finish. Refreshing, but weak in flavour and slightly boring.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a golden straw color. The head starts off a little over one finger high, with a white shade; it ultimately fades to a thin film after a couple of minutes.
S: There’s not only a subtle sulfur note here, but also a mineral quality as well. There’s also a slight presence of stone fruit esters here. Not much here, good or bad in general - however, this is by no means the freshest bottle, so it’s hard for me to decry the (lack of) aroma.
T: I really wish this was fresh(er), but I knew exactly what I was getting into buying this. Thankfully, it’s held up acceptably. There are still enough hops clustered on the front end to balance the sweetness of the malts (and likely, cereal grains) near the finish. Fruit esters are very subtle; I’d enjoy it if they were more prevalent here. Faintly buttery at times, also.
M: Can’t fault the body here: it’s light, crisp, and easy to drink. It’s also well carbonated without being over the top. My only nitpick is that the finish could be a little drier.
O: Just as I said, I bought this not expecting a top-caliber kolsch, but wondering how good this could still be after being on the shelf for over a year. It’s held up enough to where it’s still a competent (if unimpressive) example of the style. I plan on re-reviewing this.
