3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2016 1/30/16 Chicago (500 ML bottle poured into Kolsch glass). Bright gold read pour, mild carbonation lingers for minutes. Nominal white head. Very pleasant aromas of malt, bread, herbs and hops. Nice mixture of bitter hops and somewhat sweet taste. Carbonation retained, crisp with medium to heavy texture and easy going down. Presence much stronger than expected for a 4.4% ABV. Happy to have picked this up, and look forward to future pours.

A: Awkward pour from the big longneck yields 1/2" of dense white foam. Very good retention and sheeting. Crystal clear tawny pale gold color.
S: Light grassy hop smell hits first. Equally light balancing cracker malts. No grape or funk detected. Slight perfume.
T: There’s the grapes. Crisp tart fruity flavor is fairly pronounced. Not much complexity. Classic Kolsch though still no mustiness noted. Very light, subtle flavors.
M: Very soft, fine beaded carbontaion along with almost fluffy light body means this is extremely nice going down. Drinkability is through the roof.
O: Glad to finally get the chance to have and rank this classic. It won’t rewrite any books but a very well made classic and obviously one of the best of the style. If you do like Kolsch ale this is certainly a must try. Another import, however with no dating info being the only caveat.
