muddy appearance. Aroma is faint, some sweetness. taste has medium sweetnes, plums and a hint of licorice. lots of flavour but somehow it all seems unbalanced and the a 6.7% feels sligtly watery. this beer should be good but for some reason it’s just "ok".

Mild roasted aroma. Funky, almost metallic taste (?). Or maybe it’s roasted rye or ryeish. Sweet. Alright. A hint of smoke.

Bottle as a gift from Espoo. BB 09.2015. Dark coppery colour with a hue of ruby, seems clear. Head is tan, not very big, with nice retention and very little lacing. Nose is sweet of burnt caramel, even strightforward sugary, with indistinct spices and a bit of alcohol coming through, plus faint notes of vanilla and banana. Taste is like plums, nuts and perhaps figs soaked in caramel, with a drop of alcohol. Little bitterness in the finish, and as it’s warmed quite a bit, more alcohol. Dubbel-like. Soft on the palate, light bodied and kind of watery, carbonation near flat. Overall? Not very convincing, not very pleasing.

Erasmus_ro (1921) - Alabama, USA - OCT 26, 2014
Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small, beige head. Aroma is caramel, dark fruit, some yeasty marzipan and apple. Taste is somewhat sweet with spiciness, dark fruit, caramel. Dark maltiness and wooden notes on the finish. Some yeastiness. Fairly light with not much carbonation. More of an abbey dubbel than a regular dark Belgian. Goes well with horse steaks.
