Pours black with a tan head.
Nose shows chocolate, oatmeal, raosted malt, tiramisu, cocoa. Great.
Similar flavours, very tiramisu-like. coffee, cocoa, sweet oat/biscuity notes. Finishes with some dry roasted malt.
Could use a thicker body.

2013-05-20. Very dark brown body, small quick tan head. 3+ Lightly metallic vegetal notes to the aroma, cocoa. Flavour is fairly syrupy and chocolatey up front. Light bitterness dusty malt. 6+ Average plus bodied palate. Decent, just okay but the bottle is possibly a touch old. Bottle from LCBO

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottling issue) pours very dark brown with a towering beige head, very good retention and lacing (foaming in mouth, i.e. microbubbles exploding everywhere) lactosed chocolate, plenty of dark chocolate and icing sugar, some coffee grinds, roastiness - light acidity emerging from it, light grass and bittering pine coffee berries. very fizzy when drank immediately, then it settles after several minutes, medium body - a tad weak for an oatmeal stout, its body is mainly due to its residual milk chocolate sugars - never cloying though, assertive bittering coffee finish. nice offering.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16.9oz bottle, shared with friends over a game of Catan. This brewery just arrived in my area, I’m assuming what I had was the freshest version available at the time. Black color. Pours with an aggressively large light brown head. Yup, it’s carbonated. Decent ropes of lace. Good nose: chocolate, light oat. Soft, smooth carbonation. Bittersweet taste. More dry finish. Lightly chewy mouthfeel. Solid chocolate oatmeal stout. Not American-style, though. Lighter bodied, with more airy, soft carbonation than you’d expect from something American with the same name. Solid, I just prefer the American take on this style (go figure).

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours an opaque, dark brown color with a big, fat burnt caramel colored head. The head takes on the appearance of sea foam. Chocolate and a bit of cola on the nose. The mouthfeel is just so far off base for this style that it is beyond disappointing. Way too much carbonation. The flavor is very thin. Some chocolate that dissipates as quickly as it emerges, followed by a bit of walnut, then to nothing but some plastic finish. Probably a reason this one was retired.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours deep chestnut with a small rim of tan bubbles. The nose has huge notes of dark chocolate and vanilla, along with molasses and roasted malts. The flavour is lightly sweet throughout, with complex dark chocolate notes and just a touch of espresso. Hops, herbs and earth are present, but are much less promonent. The finish is slightly bitter with dark chocolate, a touch of espresso and just a hint of hops. The finish is long and roasty with subtle hops. On the palate it is medium in body with a dry texture and almost no carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice oatmeal chocolate stout with a beautiful silky texture and elegant composition. 2013-03-15

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours very black with no head or lacing. Nose is very light espresso. Aromas of espresso, roasted malts, light bitter chocolate and metal. Tastes are medium sweet and a faint bitterness. Body is very watery. Nothing remarkable.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
500ml bottle - $7.99 at Mink’s Package Store in Marietta, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours an opaque, very dark brown body with ungodly tall, sea foam-like, beige head.
Smell: Roast-edged malts, bitterish dark chocolate, a puff of smokey and some espresso grounds. Unfortunately, there’s a noted, disagreeable vegetal tone that shows up in the flavor, but is a bit more prominent here. Pity.
Taste: Roast, dark chocolate and a smokey shot of espresso. Hint of licorice. Medium-light sweetness. Slight dark berry accent. Touch of something from the garden. Minor bitterness. Drying, roasty, chocolaty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Sharp carbonation.
Overall: Rather over-carbonated. Craftsman never reaches the potential hoped for it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Smith’s. Pours hazy dark brownish black with a finger of loud brown head and a gusher upon opening. The head is like pouring a Diet Coke, and says to me as I lean in to hear it in an homage to Fred Eckhardt, "Bring me the precious!" Whatever. Nose is assertive hops, dark malt, roasty cacao, blackberry. Tastes dry, roasty dark malty, like a dry stout, with lively carbonation and a heavy and complex palate without being the slightest bit cloying, and a big hop finish, and blackberry notes. This one is great.
