COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Great Punkin" Brewed with roasted pumpkin and a blend of spices to yield ’pumpkin pie’ notes and a deep red/orange colour. Lightly hopped with NZ Fuggle and fermented with ale yeast; medium body and moderate bitterness allow the flavour of pumpkin, spice and caramelized malts to shine through. Special thanks to Andy, Jim, Holly and JDawg.

Both light and sweet in approach with mineral and caramel and some vanilla setting off the allspice & clovey hints. Dark and clear with an off white head. Moderate bitterness works well. Unusually nice top notes. Likely one of the better ones from this Kiwi brewer.

500ml bottle, from Party Source. Red brown color. Bricky mahagony type color. Pretty much no head nor lace. Just a thin greyish khaki amount that quickly fizzes away after pouring. Looks kind of lame in the glass, but it’s not bad. Kind of what you expect flavor wise -- great blend of toasty pumpkin and spice -- but it’s a bit darker and maltier in the flavor than typical for the style, too. Mild caramel malt, and some nice hints of chocolate, that’s a welcome surprise. Pretty nice, complex flavor for a pumpkin ale, great balance. Moderate sweet taste, with the perfect amount of light spice (lighter than typical for the style) to balance it out. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, very light carbonation -- makes for some easy-drinking. Light slick. Very tasty, easy-drinking pumpkin ale. Better than expected.

Finally my first pumpkin ale. Pours a dark red orange color with a nice creamy dark beige head. Aroma of malt and spices. Flavors are earthy, fruity, peppery, woody, pumpkin spices, malts. Nice warm medium body, slightly sour, light sweetness, and light bitterness, with a dry finish. Nice balance of warm and earth fruity flavors. Very much a good desert. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Will drink again. Great Pumpkin Ale.

With Zach and Josh, pours a dark orange brown pour with a small head. Nose is malty, with chocolate and fall pumpkin spices. Taste is spicy, with nutmeg, cinnamon , pumpkin and allspice. Finishes sweetly and on the same fall autumn notes. quaff score 7 / 10

500 ml bottle. Pours a deep red orange with a large tan head. Spicy aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, pumpkin, caramel malt, over ripe fruit and a hint of yeast. Sweet flavour of pumpkin, cinnamon, caramel malt, alcohol and over ripe fruit with a dry, bitter, spicy finish. Medium body with a sticky texture and average carbonation.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark ruby body with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is fairly sweet with a nice spiced gingerbread note, a bit of cooked apple and baked pumpkin, subtle hops. Flavour has more of a fruity character than expected, with some dark plum and blackberry notes up front, before some spices (clove, cinnamon, ginger) start to come through. The pumpkin seems to be hiding at first, but as the beer warms up, it makes itself known. The finish is moderately dry, with a slightly metallic hop character. All in all, this beer is a bit of a headscratcher - but in the end, I kinda liked it.

LCBO find. Orange body with big foaming action. Pumpkin aroma. Average mouthfeel. Not a bad pumpkin.
