COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Great Punkin" Brewed with roasted pumpkin and a blend of spices to yield ’pumpkin pie’ notes and a deep red/orange colour. Lightly hopped with NZ Fuggle and fermented with ale yeast; medium body and moderate bitterness allow the flavour of pumpkin, spice and caramelized malts to shine through. Special thanks to Andy, Jim, Holly and JDawg.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark ruby body with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is fairly sweet with a nice spiced gingerbread note, a bit of cooked apple and baked pumpkin, subtle hops. Flavour has more of a fruity character than expected, with some dark plum and blackberry notes up front, before some spices (clove, cinnamon, ginger) start to come through. The pumpkin seems to be hiding at first, but as the beer warms up, it makes itself known. The finish is moderately dry, with a slightly metallic hop character. All in all, this beer is a bit of a headscratcher - but in the end, I kinda liked it.

The head is good, the body dark brown and cloudy. It smells a bit alcoholic, fruity-strange, dry, strange. The taste is fruity in a strange way, creamy, intensive fermented darkfruits+punkin. The first Renaissance beer of more then 10 that I don’t like.

Bottle to pint glass There’s a lot of spices on the nose which overpower any pumpkin aroma. I guess there’s a gourd or melon aroma, but it isn’t distinct. Primary aromas are clove, cinnamon, all spice, mace, and nutmeg and a bit of sweetness. It’s appearance is a deep dark amber with a thin (2 mm) mottled tan light tan head. Primary taste is ginger and cloves, with some mace and pumpkin. This isn’t a pumpkin pie or pumpkin beer in my opinion, just a spicy ale.

Sample from 50 cl. bottle. Clear, amber colour with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma with spices - cinnamon, very Christmas... fruits, pumpkin and caramel malts. Taste is sweet. Medium body, creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet, spicy with rich malts. Very nice spiced-up beer.
