Age of Raisin is aromatic, spicy, light brown Belgian style ale brewed with raisins and passion (27% passion by volume). Raisins were added to the boil and fermenter to yield a subtle background flavour to this rich and flavoursome brew. The passion was added using our own secret method....

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours very dark orange copper with no significant head. Interesting aroma - which suggests inhaling a freshly opened box of raisins. Med minus body. Flavor is darkish malt, and darkish raisin. Might be some other fruits too. This ale is pointed in a nice direction, but it seems light (tho quite dark). Nice drink, but it seems it could have been more.

Poured a hazy reddish brown, aroma is rich breast malt and raisins with dried fruit. Taste is raisin with some cinnamon and some dark bread like rye. Medium body medium mouthfeel. Nice beer tastes very much lime a dubbel.

Poured a cloudy brown with ruby highlights....modest cap reduces quickly...aroma is slight for a belgian but you get the raisiny discernment....flavor is a tad thin but pleasant, not too sweet, fruity and roasty - dries in the finish - good drinking brew but over priced for what you get.

Bottle from the LCBO served in a wine glass, deep amber red with a filmy beige head. A malty sweet, brown sugar, molasses, raisins & light spice. Medium-full bodied with a round carbonation. The taste is malty, well balanced, a bit boozy, candy sugar + raisins.

Pours medium brown tinged with violet. Aroma of red wine, chocolate and malt. Taste of grapes / wine, chocolate and malt. Lingering slightly sour aftertaste of grapes.

ALLOVATE (2413) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 22, 2014
Deep, shimmering ruby body with a fine bead but little to no head retention. Cellar temp. and into a snifter. Deeply embedded in raisins is the nose. It is all savoury fruit mince in a thick sultana, raisin and date syrup - sweet and spiced. Tangy, tart and sweet raisin and dried stonefruits on the palate. Quite clammy, but with just enough woody, roasted malts in back to dry it out. Body is medium-light. The carbonation quite spritzy and vibrant. Long, woody length gets away from the raisins flavour of the palate. This is Ok drinking, up against the -70 shilling I tried prior. Not exciting, but not bad at all. (bottle) clear reddish brown colour colour with a small brown head; faint aroma of brown sugar, dried fruit; mostly dry, light flavour with a long light bitter finish; not that interesting

Where and how: bottle 500 ml LC B and O
Aroma sweetness upon Belgian yeast influence, softens around, sugars and semi dry alcohol
Appearance :
Top: mid lasting off white cap.
Base: clear amber with hint of fresh copper.
Palate : medium full bodied, lighter carbonation, semi oily softer finish.
Taste: silky smooth with raisin sugary hints on walls, some alcohol heat but not heavy, tannins , red apple skin with bittering hops.
Other notes another unusual brew. Kudos to brew masters !

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep, clear mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma: Rich maltiness, sweet and sticky, boozy, some dark dried fruits, Belgian yeast character, a certain darker, more stern side (almost black pepper?), molasses and dark treacle. Palate: Medium+ body with quite full, elegant effervescence. Flav.: Lots of brown sugar, treacle, molasses, some dark dried fruit character, quite malty, Belgian esters to a lesser extent, vanilla?, quite rich, unctuous and lovely (if boozy); sweet with fairly low bitterness, some booze and a long, richly malty finish.

May be a touch thin, if I’m picky. Nice flavours though.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a lightly cloudy rubyish amber with modest-sized cream-coloured head. Raisin comes through in the aroma as well as candy sugar, caramel, plum and a light spicy note. Flavour is very sweet with candy sugar, caramel, raisin and other dark fruit and a gentle spiciness. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy. Different, but decent.
