COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Somewhere between a Barley Wine and a Double IPA, MPA has been a seasonal Ale for Renaissance for years now. So we thought we would tweak it. In this special ale we have used large amounts of freshly harvested hops from one of New Zealand’s sexiest hop varieties Wai-iti. Wai-iti bursts with mandarin and lime zest and leaves the ale with a smooth finish. The soft bitterness is balanced by the malt sweetness of the base beer yielding a very drinkable ale. Best enjoyed at 6-8°C.

Bottle - pour copper with a big white head that clings to the glass on the way down. Aroma is tropical fruit, pineapple, passion fruit and a big piney resin. Hops dominate the taste but not in a cloying way. Nice bitter finish at the end without being too over the top. Smooth creamy mouthfeel.

Tasting at Matt’s; bbd May 2016, L490
Cloudy light amber color. Some smell of apples, light residual sweetness, uninteresting malts, light fruity touch, some abrasive resins. Controversial, not so good.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy opaque orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is very fruity, with lots of stone fruits and tropical fruity hops. Flavour is big on the berry fruitiness, with fairly abrasive citrus hops and tropical fruitiness. Not particularly complex and a tad abrasive, but it works well together. Very nice.

Great fresh hopped IIPA. Slight mothball aroma and fresh skankiness about it - unmistakably fresh. Possibly lacking a bit of weight in the aroma. Very drinkable

Brewdog Clapham. Keg. Clear amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth, semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Smooth malts, mild caramel - toffee. Modest spice. Nice piney start to the hops, mild hop spice ensues. Little marmalade, whisper of skunk. Light finish. Mild caramel linger. Nice but was hoping for some limey Wai Iti punch and it ain’t here!

500ml bottle (BBE 5/16). Copper amber pour with a moderate off-white head settling to a stable film. Definitely more malty than hoppy on the nose and tongue. Sweet caramel syrupy fruity malt base with some citrusy notes (oranges, lime, faint pine). Palate is sweet at first before a firm bitter spicy finish. Quite rich and sticky. More Barley Wine than DIPA.
