COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A revamp of our original Paradox - which was a Blonde Ale - we have made some tweaks to the yeast of fermentation to bring you the new, improved, Paradox.

As soon as you flip the top off the bottle you know you’re in for something special. While the bright golden hue hints at a great quaffing beer, the explosion of passionfruit and citrus aromas - the signature of the Riwaka hop variety - leave you in no doubt you’re in for more than mere refreshment. On the palate the initial biscuity malt sweetness is soon joined by those zingy hop notes. This beer is flavour-packed, yet crisp and thirst quenching - that’s the paradox! When your thirst is finally slaked, try another glass withthe best seafood dish on the menu. Yum!

Keg at Taps, Kl. It pours golden-amber with medium white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, grassy, light tropical fruits and dough. The taste is crisp, bitter, grassy, citrus peel, light soap, toasted grain, dough and a touch of pepper with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Balanced, crisp and crushable. Very nice pils.

bottle at mondial 2014, mtl. pours hazy if not cloudy pale yellow with a small bubbly white head, some retention and lacing - some particles. pils and lightly spicy grainy cereals, husks, lemon, herbal-grassiness. average carbonation - slightly foamy, light body - slightly watery, dry clean herbal-citrusy finish. malt-lacking - slightly above average pils.

My Bottom Line:
This crisp and delicate Pilsener murmurs herbal hop bitterness and honeyed haystacks for optimal drinkability.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear pale gold.
-Even though this is obviously well crafted, it fails to create much of an impression in this bottle.
-Carbonation is lightly prickling, emulating mostly German-style Pilseners.
-Not sure how old this bottle was... the citrusy hop flavors they talk about were really not "exploding"...

Bottle.

Jaune/blonde, claire, avec une petite mousse blanche. Nez de résine, d’houblons et d’ananas. Goût léger d’agrumes. Amertume légère en finale, qui est sèche. (Notes du Mondial 2014)

Drank from bottle at the Mondial de la Bière 2014 in Montreal. Blonde straw, small head. Aroma hops mid sweet, dry mid very floral. Dry citrus pine flavor, cut very well the thirsty sweet bitterness. I see myself on the beach in New Zealand with that!

A pilsner for ale drinkers. Aroma and taste is fruitier than expected - which is a problem for the style - but an advantage for those that prefer their beers to be complex.

I’m giving up hopes of ever finding a New Zealand Pilsener that does taste like a Pilsener. The fruitiness on this beer does have the lovely passion fruit, but too much of the cashew apple aroma and flavour, and I don’t like cashew apples. Very grassy-bitter finish.

From draft and bottle. Clear, still body, gold with a short white head. Minimally hoppy aroma for what they call a New World Pilsner: starchy popcorn (sans butter), pasty / yeasty notes, notebook paper staleness, saltine cracker malt with some raw graininess. Medium bitterness, tart, dry, medium-light body. What hop aroma is coaxed from the glass after it warms a bit suggests German Noble variety (lemon, spice) mixed with a NZ fruity pineapple / gum sort (later confirmed to be Riwaka). Overall it’s a plain Pilsner that suffers from a starchy / husky texture, the bottle I opened later was even rougher, carbonation was higher and more coarse like seltzer water. Not a flawed beer, just very simple, sitting in the low 3’s for me like many of their other products.

The head is good, the body blond. It smells maltaromatic, sweet, bit grain, barley. The taste is maltaromatic, barley, grain, aromatic, bit bitter. Nice one!
