This is the big, hearty ’red wine’ of our range. Nine malts are blended to produce layers of caramel, coffee, liquorice, chocolate and roasty flavours and these are balanced by a tart, raisiny fruitiness that gradually gives way to a lingering dry finish. Rich, full bodied. warming and moreish. Stonecutter pairs well with venison, roast beef or lamb, or the heartiest casseroles and stews. For dessert try with a creme brulee or, of course, Scottish shortbread.

500ml bottle to tulip glass, beer pours a hazy dark red/brown with a mocha colored head. Aroma consists of chocolate, coffee, spices, fruitcake, licorice and other complexities. Taste mirrors the aroma...the beer is quite rich in flavour...lots of coffee, burnt caramel, butterscotch, ripe dark fruit, chocolate... Palate is full bodied, co2 medium, incredibly smooth. Overall a very nice beer, bit pricey but most of this stuff is.

500 ml bottle. Pours a garnet red/brown with light head of big bubbles. Slightly sour aromas of toasted malts and dark fruit with a light smokiness. Smoky flavor, with rich malts and raisins.

smells of wood scotch and malty goodness slightly sweet gorgeous dark color with a powerful frothy off white head and the smell becomes even more robustthe taste is oaky scotchy and malty very mild coffee taste and nice rasty flavours

A beautiful ale full of smooth full bodied malt. The toffee with hints of aniseed & licorice were blended beautifully and the palate lingered which in turn amplified the next drink. Stunningly good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From 500 ml bottle. Pours a clear copper-bronze with a rocky cream head that leaves good lqcing. The bottle I had seemed a bit over-carbonated. Aromas of baked apple, raisin, date and stewed plums, maybe a little tobacco or leather in the background. Taste starts out with dark fruit, before a malty caramel richness comes through with a cinnamon/nutmeg spice note. Smooth and velvety body. Long finish with fruit and spice. Excellent Scotch ale.

Pours a deep dark brown with moderate head. Caramel and coffee flavours intermingle with a touch of rasin and smokiness. Long and pleasantly bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden. A nice introduction to Renaissance brewing.

50cl bottle pours with a dark brown to deep ruby red body that supports a half inch tall tan head. The aroma offers up prunes, brown sugar, earthy goodness, boysenberries and a touch of ripe cherry meat. The taste begins with caramel sweetness and then quickly heads toward dates and prunes and molasses. Behind those notes is a pleasing earthiness that binds everything together. This is a bit thin but offers up a pleasing level of richness and depth. Nice, a pretty solid Scotch Ale.
