COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the big, hearty íred wineí of our range. Nine malts are blended to produce layers of caramel, coffee, liquorice, chocolate and roasty flavours and these are balanced by a tart, raisiny fruitiness that gradually gives way to a lingering dry finish. Rich, full bodied. warming and moreish. Stonecutter pairs well with venison, roast beef or lamb, or the heartiest casseroles and stews. For dessert try with a creme brulee or, of course, Scottish shortbread.

Pours copper. Slightly hazy. Good and long lasty creme head. Aroma is mainly about caramel and grass. Taste is... surprisingly rich. Itís obviously a malt-driven brew, which brings up lots of caramel and even fruit notes. Somewhat dusty, in a good way. A bit too sweet (the only thing i can say against this, really). Not much hops profile, but the beer itself doesnít suffer. Brought at the LCBO. I donít know if it was a random pick but... wow. Best scotch ale I havenít drank for a while.

Bottle from beermerchants.com, drank a couple of weeks ago; Iím a definite sucker for Scotch Ales and this was no exception; lovely velvety malty texture with a delicious rum and raisin tang; quality beer.

500ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Rich copper in colour with a thin but long lasting beige head, light lacing. Aroma is of toffee/caramel, light chocolate, very light alcohol, light smoke. The flavour is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, hoppy, maple, peat. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, slightly warming. Not bad, nice balance. Quite rich.

Drank from bottle at the Mondial de la BiŤre 2014 in Montreal. Golden brown, thin head. Barley aroma that is slightly sweet and fruity. Taste of barley drier, pretty hoppy, bitter finish. Solid enough for 7%!

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly cloudy dark brown with a whispy thin broken white head. The aroma is rich red berry fruit, treacle, toffee, caramel. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet with a rich fruity yeast hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not a style that inspires me, but this is one of the best Iíve had.

Keg - Goldingís Free Dive. A clear chestnut brown with a fine though lasting and lacing soapy off-white head. A solid malt-forward drop with yeasty complexities. Chocolate, roasted malt, bread, biscuit, mid and dried fruits and nut characters. Light to medium body, medium carbonation and firm palate texture with a modest length and intensity malty finish. The malt and yeast interplay is both charming and interesting. Also benefited straight out of the gates from not being served overly cold here to suit its style!

On tap at The Archive. A very nice beer, the Scotch flavours are pleasant but not over bearing, smooth and malty, well worth a try.
