COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the big, hearty íred wineí of our range. Nine malts are blended to produce layers of caramel, coffee, liquorice, chocolate and roasty flavours and these are balanced by a tart, raisiny fruitiness that gradually gives way to a lingering dry finish. Rich, full bodied. warming and moreish. Stonecutter pairs well with venison, roast beef or lamb, or the heartiest casseroles and stews. For dessert try with a creme brulee or, of course, Scottish shortbread.

A beautiful ale full of smooth full bodied malt. The toffee with hints of aniseed & licorice were blended beautifully and the palate lingered which in turn amplified the next drink. Stunningly good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at the 2015 edition of the chriso Pre-GBBF tasting - London. Cheers! Pours clear ruby with a foamy, off-white head. RIch malty aroma, with notes of toffee and ripening fruits. Medium sweet flavour with bitter grains, some oily pine, bread. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sugary on the finish, with more toasted bread, sweet dried fruits. OK stuff on the whole.

Aroma winey, fruity, cheery, bit malty in the back. Dark copper color, poor head, nice lacing. Taste - in front wooden and cheery, very nice. The end is malty, sweet. Was hoping for more tartness and harshness. There is some of it in the aftertaste. Nice medium body, quite drinkable.

330 ml bottle bought at Craftissmo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Looks: Clear deep burgundy colour; Three-quarter finger head and soapy light beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Fair sticky lacing and near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet dark malt, with strong brown sugar, strong caramel, toffee, rum-like alcohol, liquorices, strong cocoa powder, cream, plum, dark fruits, earth, yeast and light grass.

Taste: Pleasant strong sweet dark malt, with fair roastyness, strong caramel, strong sticky toffee, brown sugar, fair dark fruits, strong liquorices, light lemon, moderate to light biter hops and light grass.

Body: Mid to light body. Thin but slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Very good dark maltyness in a watery but slick baclground. Strong brown sugar hits you right away but surprisingly in just the right amount and not cloying at all, balanced by strong liquorices, with with well-hidden booze. Strong rich toffee and caramel followed by dark fruits, some tartness and light lemon to round. Very well-balanced and easy to enjoy. Nice!

Hoppiness: Earth and light grass in nose. Lemon and light grass in taste. Bitterness is moderately low for a lasting, low astringent sweet-bitter finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. Nice sweet and fairly bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one is probably the easiest Scotch Ale Iíve tried so far. Its body may be thin but the brown sugar aroma and taste integrated so well with tight booze and liquorices that itís almost as fresh and sparkling as a Golden Ale. Tasty sweet and quite refreshing, this is a simple but well-made treasure not to miss!

Pours a mahogany with strong ruby red highlights. Small beige swirls, some lacing. Strong whiff of rich malt and booze off the top, opens up to show brown sugar, toffee, great licorice notes, dark fruits. The flavour also gives an anise touch, mixed with raisin. It is smooth and gently carbonated, the sweetness balances out nicely by a dry warming finish that hangs in the throat. I wouldíve liked a bit more body to it, it felt a tad thin in the second half. Minor quibble. Best beer Iíve tried from Renaissance, distinctive pleasing flavours that hold together really well.

500 ml bottle into tulip. Ruby red beer with fluffy off-white head. Smells of caramel malt toffees. Quite light in the mouth, flavour follows the nose. Caramel malt, finish is dark dried fruit. Alcohol is noticeable late on. Very good. Iím about to drink it with a beef casserole so.......cheers!

Bottle (500 ml). Split 2-ways. Hazy dark reddish brown with a small tan cap leaving little lacing. Aroma is rich with toffee, dried raisins, earthy notes, candi sugar and hints of smoke. Taste is a little more raw and less rich with toffee, caramel, raisins, mild smoke and a weird earthy bitterness. Medium body, but it felt thin for the style. Medium carbonation. Earthy finish, lingering a bit. A good Scotch Ale that would be better with richer malts, more body and less earthy bitterness.

Pours dark, dark brown, almost red with decent cream head. Aroma is complex - boozy, dark fruit, burnt orange, roasted malt, smoke, winter spice, tobacco and raisin. Flavour lives up to the aroma with long, boozy finish, whisky, burnt oak and malty richness and waves of flavour. Impressive Scotch ale to keep you warm on a winterís night, but not for the faint hearted!

Very sweet, Black Forest cake and prunes. Nice but. Too much for a day beer. Would be good with (or as) a dessert.
