COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designed first and foremost to be served on beer engines and in the future as a cask or bottle conditioned ale, this beer is inspired by the boldly hoppy Ales of old that were exported from Britain to the furthest corners of her vast and glorious empire, Voyager I.P.A. is a rich satisfying Ale with an emphatic hop bite.

It is brewed with pale ale malt from Canterbury, and small additions of European specialty malts to yield a malt base on which to build its hop edifice.

We generously hop it with two Kiwi hop varieties for bitterness then finish it with Fuggles (as a nod to I.P.A.’s British origin) and New Zealand bred Riwaka hops for a spicy floral finish.

I’ve had this on the hand pull, where it made a lovely smooth summer afternoon ale, now trying it with carbonation, from the 500ml bottle. Pours rich brown with a full head, from which the predominant aroma are the Riwaka hops. Full and bitter in the mouth, but with a lovely smoothness from a nicely balanced malt. The sprucey notes of the New Zealand hops is probably a bit too overpowering, especially on the after-taste. It’s a typically New Zealand IPA, which is fine, but not quite capturing the British heritage I think they may’ve been going for. That aside, this is a lovely sprightly drop.

Bottled. Murky amber beer, frothy white head. Hoppy aromas of apricot jam, raspberry, mango, kiwi and a hint of tamarind sauce. Extremely fizzy carbonation makes it diffucult to taste. Dryish, slightly biscuity and caramelly malts, quite strong and sweetly fruity/slightly herbal hop flavor, mellow hop bite in the finish. Carbs erupt in your mouth forming a mouthfull of foam. Way over carbonated! Medium body. Aroma is wonderfull, but carbs knock out most ois the rest. And it is very good, nevertheless.

Bottle, The Offie, Leicester. Golden brown with a thin head. Toffee and hedgerow berries with mushroom funk. Citrus rind with nutty notes. Pithy, clean, bittersweet grapefruit with herbal aspects. Leafy, peppery pine with a malty, yet dry finish. A bit roasty and toasty. Decent.

From old notes. 500ml bottle from Costco. Pours a bronze-amber with a tiny filmy head. Quite clear. Big malty aroma, caramel toffee, but mixed well with bright floral hops. The taste and feel is excellent, very solid malt base, a little sweetness, mild hop bitterness, a little fruity pith and lightly spiced. Ends quite bitter and dry. Really enjoyable.

Perhaps a bad bottle? Although not off in any way, just nothing great.. Poured a dirty copper colour like you get at the end of a keg sometimes but looked a bit dirt for my liking. Very short lived head of foam. Nothing wow on the nose. It drank like it looked - copper/metallic - but not off/tang - just, malt driven and not hop driven like I would expect of an IPA. I havent had a Renaissance beer before - despite seeing them in AU/NZ quite a bit - the cost of them and the fact that they just look a little boring meant I hadnt tried one. This one was a gift, and I cant help but think my spidey-senses work pretty well after this one. I still have a Scotch version to get through to hopefully swing me to a more positive tune.
