Hop head? Yeah, this one’s for you. Crisp malt with a touch of caramel and a generous helping of rye. Oh yeah, and hops, hops and more hops. This Rye IPA is 7% ABV and 100+ IBU’s.

From a can. Pours clear amber with a thick, frothy off white head. Tastes like toasted malt, dry grapefruit hops, some dried fruit, and toffee. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like toasted malt, some dried fruits, grapefruit hops, and toffee.

12oz can pours with a nicely hop hazed copper body that supports a near white head of foam. The modest aroma offers up pine, floral hops, a bit of citrus and then a maltiness that might have a spicy rye like feel to it. The taste delivers hop notes that are on the bitter and near resiny side. I get a moderate pine hoppiness that has a resiny edge and then some pineapple and grapefruit fruity hop bitterness. Behind that lurks a rye spicy twang. Decent bitter hopped brew.

On tap at Red’s. Pours light copper with thin white head. No real aroma of hops. Light spice aroma. Flavor is pess spicy and a bit bready. No real hop notes. Really lacking on hops for a rye ipa.

12 oz can. Nice pineapple in the aroma. Cloudy amber color with thick white head of nice tiny bubbles. Flavor has a hint of spiciness from the rye, a touch citrusy. Med bodied, with lively carbonation. Overall, not too bad but almost overcarbonated?

12oz bottle. While rye is not my favorite ingredient, this is a pretty good Rye IPA, with enough hops to balance it out. Big, full bodied, kind of a classic West Coast hop feel with a specialty malt heavy linger. Better than I had anticipated, I could go for more of this.
