Sampled from bottle at Borresteijn’s place. Clear, golden yellow with a large, foamy, almost, white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly spicy aroma of caramel, a bit of honey and a bit of clove. Sweetish-malty, slightly bitter taste of caramel, straw, a bit of honey and clove, followed by a short, medium bitter, dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice!

Hazy orange with a colossal head. Wet grass aroma. Way overcarbonated. Taste is completely overpowered by carbonation.

Bottle from Belgiuminabox; cork is heavily pressurized, but no sign of gushing. Very thick, frothy, irregular but dense, off-white head on top of a hazy orangey peach blonde beer with somewhat greenish hue and remarkably lively, steady, almost champagne-like fizz; muddy and ochre with deposit. Appetizing aroma of apricot, persimmon, dry earth, fried egg, field flowers, lemon zest, coriander seed (but fortunately subtle), bread crust, some green banana, old cake, straw. Crisp and fruity onset, strongly carbonated and almost champagne- or cava-like (so refined bubbles rather than a coarse, abrasive effect), calming down after a while. Flavour is initially very subduedly sweetish and pleasantly ’basic’ sourish with hints of dried apricot, unripe plum and redcurrant, earthy and spicy hop bitterness already present at the beginning and stretching deep into the finish, spanning a very pleasantly bready and lightly cereal-like, dryish malt backbone. Finish brings the hoppy flavours together both in deep, earthy drought and in very noble European aromas of straw, wild flowers and dried herbs. What remains, is a drying, spicy, almost ’green’ hop bitterness softened by a trace of the bready maltiness and a subtle honeyish to even raisin-like sweetness, a thin coating of bittersweet ’corianderness’ but well integrated into the whole instead of dominating, and a light gin-like alcohol warmth. If this is intended as an IPA, it is a very English one, but to me this is Belgian in all respects: I’d classify this as a typical ’Belgian bitter blonde’ in the league of De Ranke’s XX Bitter or even Kerkom’s Bink Blond, but then this style in itself is of course heavily influenced by English bitter, English IPA and the like. Whatever the case in terms of style: I find this beer very appetizing, it has an assertive hop character without losing balance, and it is technically clearly well made. After their Oud Bruin I had yesterday, I think this brewery deserves way more attention, it is clear that they master the art of brewing a fine Belgian beer. Kudos.

Bue en bouteille de 75cl. Blonde clair, mousse blanche onctueuse. Pointe d’acidité au nez, grain. Au palais, citron, acidité, houblon, bel équilibre amertume/acidité. Ronde en bouche, grande longueur, très plaisante.

Lots of white foam and a misty appearance. Nice dark gold color. Smells very hoppy and rich without any compromise. Strong taste of hops and strong bitter aftertaste. Great refreshing beer on a hot summer day.

750 ml. bottle. Purchased @ De Hopduvel. Bottled on 08.11.2014. Cork just popped out right as soon as I loosened the cage. I got a glass of collapsing egg-white head. The head just kept rising out of the bottle. Clear golden, huge collapsing egg-white head. Nose is mild sweetish bread, dough, lightly floral, hay, still getting light floral hops, light yeast, citrus, faint Sulphur-like note,… Taste is mineral, odd big Sulphur taste, odd sweetish chemical lab dough, more Sulphur, big weeds, odd floral, barn, hay, light bitter hay, oddly mineral, rocks, odd light silk tofu note, some sweetish plastic, faint cava-like note,… Big mineral, rocks, weeds & Sulphur bitterness in the finish,… Very big, somewhat Champagne-like carbonation,… Odd beer, a bit hard & easy to drink at the same time. Somewhat fascinating, I had to grow a bit accustomed to it. More saison-like than most saison beers I see coming out these days. Interesting but not entirely pleasant. Not everything needs to be good, interesting is just as good for me.
