To honor a true scholar, the Requiem Espresso Stout’s October release celebrates Edgar Allan Poe’s 200th birthday. Fusing fresh roast espresso beans with malted barley and fresh hops, the Requiem Espresso Stout is a curiously delightful libation that weighs in at 7.5% alcohol by volume. Not your mass-marketed, fizzy-yellow-swill, the Requiem Espresso Stout is instead a rich, medium bodied, viscous treat with hints of dark chocolate, smokiness, and espresso beans.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a tan head and a black body. Aroma of coffee, cold and strong pressed with a spicy roast and a touch of chocolate. Taste is espresso...really really strong coffee, and lightly smokey and chocolaty. Exceptionally pleasant. Medium bubbles, decently well attenuated finish. I like what I am seeing from these guys. Give me more!

Bottle. Brown in color with a small white head. Really it is a touch off white to be exact. Nice aroma filled with coffee and cream. Flavor is somewhat sweet. Chocolate malt works well with the espresso which has not been over roasted. Some graham cracker flavor is present as well. Nice carbonation which keeps this from getting cloying and sticky. Really enjoyable, and so far the highlight of a small tasting during the Golden Globes.
