3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (5993) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 16, 2013
Sample at Hale’s in Seattle. Brownish-black pour with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium body with a roasty character and flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and malt. The finish is dry with a roast malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Blackened browned body, with a chocolate top. Roast coffee nose along with some sweetness to it. Sweetened coffee malt body that tends toward thinnish for an oatmeal stout, let alone an imperial oatmeal stout. Decent flavors, but a bit lacking in mouthfeel.

On tap at Reuben’s tasting room, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is deep with rich chocolate and hearty oatmeal notes, some feint coffee notes as well. Flavour is fairly rich and creamy, with hearty notes, smooth dark chocolate and light coffee notes. Very low sweetness, which is how I prefer them. Full-bodied and creamy. Well-balanced and constructed. Great one.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a black colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is smooth oats and chocolate, a light roast backing, caramel, touches of dark fruit, and traces of vanilla. Flavor is similar. Rich dark chocolates and smooth oats with a nice roast backing. A light caramel and dark fruit, hints of vanilla, and a touch of coffee towards the end. Finishes clean, smooth, and somewhat dry with a nice coffee-roast and creamy chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste following a creamy, medium-full body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really solid beer. Smooth and creamy with a nice coffee-roast balance. Good one.
