glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 5, 2007 Dark cherry/reddish brown. Good head. Aroma of burnt malt and chocolate with a bit of yeast and spices. More burnt malt in the taste is very dominating. Nice alcohol sweetness. Tasty. As a "measurement of my own appreciation" for the overall; it’s hard to not give this beer a high mark for donating all profits to cancer research. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Apr 3, 2007 Updated: Apr 11, 20084-10-08 I just retried this beer today and man has it opened up. The nectar is thick and the flavors really came together on this one. Much more malty now with good flavor concentration. The citrus has taken a backseat but the hops are still defined. Get it if you can.// 88 points //Pours a deep mahogany brown color w/ a full, beachball spattered froth. Good head retention w/ residual lacing. Aroma of sweet perky malts w/ a hop twitch. Light to medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. No residual sweetness yet malty w/ a moderate roast component. A high hop rate digs in fast and lingers killing all the complexities that may have been from the malts. Mineraly w/ big citrus rind, leather, coffee bean, bazooka gum dust, cake bread. Seems like it tries to go rootbeer but the hops kill it before it starts. A unique brew indeed. Asprin juice. A hop heads dream w/o all the citrus juice. For being so light in body, the malts are round giving me the impression of a fuller texture. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Apr 2, 2007 Kudos to the guys who created and then brewed this beer for a great cause. Excellent idea and I hope it gets it’s just due. On to the beer. Aroma was subdued with minimal amounts of hops, a good dose of sweet malts, caramel and a bit of roast...reminded me of root beer. Appearance was deep brown in color, medium sized head. Flavors carried more of a hop profile than the aroma, with a citrusy hop taste, sweet caramel malts..again with a rootbeer like character. The beer is just okay. The idea behind the beer is phenomenal. cyanescens (156), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 2, 2007 Brown ale with high alcohol. Alcohol taste is definately present, not smooth-bitter. Chocolate notes are present but nothing dramatic. It is what you would want in an imperial brown. Drinkable, but I expected more. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 1, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a brown (mahogany highlights) body with a large beige head. Aroma of chocolate, citrus, earthiness, and a hint of sour grapes. Flavor of toasted malt, grapefruit, hops, and a touch of fennel with a somewhat bitter finish. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 29, 2007 Bomber. Pours a clear brown with a massive, fluffy, lacy tan head. I’m not getting a lot in the aroma, but there is a bit of fig and caramel with some floral hops. Hmm.... now the bottle is turning into a bit of a gusher, and I’ve already poured one glass. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Sweet but nondescript malty taste, just a little bit of chocolate wandering around, looking for the piney exit. Great cause, but I wish it was a better beer. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Mar 27, 2007 22oz bomber-A medium to dark brown brew with a nice tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and and a little pine. Taste of malt, sweetness, dryness and finishing with a nice chocolate taste. The alcohol never cam across for me. A nice tasting brown. TerryR (382), Oswego, Illinois, USA Mar 26, 2007 Reddish/brown with a tan head. Aroma of nutty sweet malt, chocolate citrus, pine and alcohol. Flavor has more of the same, with the alcohol becoming less noticeable and more chocolate flavors emerging. Ends on a citrus pine note. Quite enjoyable.
