nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2008 The aroma has caramel, pine hops, chocolate, and rye. The appearance is deep amber with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall a very good beer for a very good cause. BorksBabe (81), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2008 Aroma of caramel, chocolate malt and rye. Very dark red in color with a non-existent head. Malty flavor with hints of caramel, with a hoppy bitterness- maybe from the caraway? Smooth palate with a slightly bitter aftertaste from the hops. Overall, a nice beer. Indulgence (141), Ajo, Arizona, USA Jul 12, 2008 22oz: Strong malty sweet aroma of caramel and dark russian rye bread, butterscotch, brown sugar and alchohol. Head was non existant with no lacing to speak of, color was a pretty transparant rusty copper; moderately sweet flavors, not cloying, with a sweet, spicy finish as the alchohol burns off and the finish is long; this one coats the mouth with a light oils and lingers, carbonation is light. Overall, I enjoyed this beer, similar to a Canadian blended rye whiskey in taste, texture without the alchohol burn. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bomber from Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. Deep brown ale color, thin light head. Nut brown ale smell, with extra rye spiciness. I never cared for caraway in my rye, but let’s see. Slides out of my shaker glass pretty nicely. Caraway does not bother me, it’s just well blended in to a style that can throw off some nice spicy notes anyway. Nutty. Carbonation tilts a bit to the creamy slide. Honey on a biscuit as we approach the finish. A great balance of spices that complements a rich malty body, aided by a cut back on the West Coast hops to a well-done Noble spiciness. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 4, 2008 Found at Grape of Mirth, Colombus, Ohio. Light brown with significant head. Smooth and lacey. A malty taste and aroma. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a dark ruby reddish brown color. Small white froth that dissipated quickly. Aroma is very spicy and bready, very pleasant and different. Somewhat sweet and hoppy as well. Flavor starts out with a nice strong spice hoppiness and the heavy malt shows through in the somewhat bitter finish. Medium bodied and quite rich, this is a tasty beer that has a great mouth feel. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 2, 2008 22-oz bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor, Colorado Springs, CO. Pours clear brown with a small, fizzy, off-white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, grain, cookie), average hops (perfume, flowers), light yeast (dough) with notes of toasted caraway seeds, spiced apples, and toffee. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
