willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Dec 21, 2008 20081221 Bomber from Abes. Ruby brown color with small beige head. Aroma doughy and nice rye spiciness plus light notes of dark caramel. A bit thinner than I expected but matches the overall mild approach of this somewhat big beer. Toasty with a sharp rye bite and grassy bitterness. Some light cocoa and tobacco. Tasty stuff, though not at all what I expected. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Dec 20, 2008 Pours a rubby color with a thin white head and some sudsy lacing. Aroma is malty, nutty, grain, and a small alcohol note. Taste is smooth - nutty and malty. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Dec 16, 2008 22oz bottle. Copper pour very clear with a small head. Very malty aroma with a hard to place aroma that you just have to guess is caraway. It’s a bit nutty as well. The flavor is malt mixed with many strange adjuncts. Carob comes to mind and I suppose that’s caraway. Its tough to pull out individual flavors as what ever they have done has modified the malt flavors but is very complimentary. Full body a bit creamy and round mouth feel. This is pretty good but the strange value would overpower you if you drank this regularly or in quantity. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 28, 2008 Thanks to Skyview. Bottle. Clear dark amber pour with little head. Aroma of sweet malt with a similar flavor. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Oct 23, 2008 Warm red cherry wood color with slight haze and tan head. Very bready aroma. Nutty, doughy, whole grain, crusty, smells like a Jewihs bakery with lots of blueberry and cherry skins at the end. Smooth palate. Low carbonation. Sweet entry, mellowing to a smooth bready finish. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 23, 2008 Pours a clear dark reddish amber with a small beige thin froth. Funky rye bread aroma. Flavor is earthy with a slight glassy sweetness, lightly hopped, crunchy rye bread. Medium body, glassy, with light crisp carbonation. Kind of like drinking a crouton. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 11, 2008 Clear amber pour with a foamy head. Aroma of toasted rye bread. Flavor is lightly sweet, with caramel and brown sugar. Then the grain and rye come through. Just a touch of alcohol and hops on the finish. Interesting brew. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Oct 10, 2008 22oz Bottles. Settled bread-like nose, with a light punch of caraway. Some Black Russian Bagel in there for sure. Pours a vibrantly clear red-brown, with a thin rim in off-white. Flavor is relatively mild. A gentle sway of brown sugar, toasted pumpernickel, malt sugars, bright alcohols and a faint cast of hops on the backend. Sweet, but some of the spicy sharpness from the rye and the alcohol balances. A nice west-coast hop character draws finish. Respectable. Thanks much Sean!
