timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 26, 2008 Rusty red pour with a good amount of carbonation. Straight forward, malty and rye nose. Has slight roast malt and cream up front, some spice and grass, finishes with a little tea? and lingering hop pine. Really not bad, reminds me a little of an ESB style more than red. Probably from the caraway seed. Not bad, for a good cause makes it better. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Sep 23, 2008 Pours clear deep amber with an average head.
Spicy malt aroma.
The flavor is mostly malt with some rye notes.
Drinkable and smooth. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Sep 19, 2008 Courtesy of Skyview. Copper color with a thin head. Big aroma of rye and caraway. Plenty more rye flavor, caramel malts. A dry, earthy hop finish. Really tasty. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Sep 13, 2008 this is like Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale--malts and rye are definitely the focus: sweet, rye, and creamy, but with a weird spice in the aftertaste; anise-like that is likely from the caraway; nearly too slick and oily in the mouth; but this is good. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Sep 4, 2008 Rye with caraway. 22oz bottle. Pours reddish-brown color. Spicy rye aroma. Flavor has a touch of caraway on the front of the palate. Nice spicy flavor. The best cancer rye beer there is! nuplastikk (1159), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 25, 2008 22oz bomber bottle. Deep ruby red-brown color. Sugar amber malt characteristics, with that adjuncty sweetness that rye can impart. The aroma is cinnamon or nutmeg-like, I suppose my detective instinct would lead me to believe caraway seed..something unexpected. This beer further proves that rye is best used in moderation, unless of course you are talking about the Jersey City variety. This beer is well balanced in some ways, but I really am not into the rye base. For me, this beer is dedicated to Candy Dona of Quarryville PA, one of the finest women to have walked the planet. May her memory live on. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bomber. Clear iced tea with a wisp of an off white head. Sweet caramel and earthy spices dominate the nose. Earthy flavors, caraway seed is apparent now, as is the rye influence. Nice lace. Lingering spicy-sweet finish. Very drinkable. RIP, Virginia. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Aug 20, 2008 Slightly hazy, reddish brown appearance with a tiny, off white head and no lacing. Muted aroma with grainy malts poking their way through, followed by spicyness. Some caramel malt sweetness in the taste pairs up with the rye. Not sure if the spicy flavor is coming from the hops or the rye, but it is enough to add balance and interest. Could not detect the caraway seeds noted on the label. Medium-bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel. Earthy edge to the lingering finish.
