REUNION ‘10— Belgian-Style Scotch Ale. Terrapin Beer Co. and Taco Mac are once again participating in the Reunion: A Beer for Hope fund-raising campaign. The Campaign raises funds to support The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research in the name of Virginia MacLean who succumbed to the disease in 2007. This year’s beer is a Belgian-Style Scotch Ale – a nod to Virginia’s Scottish heritage. The beer boasts a deep amber color with a rich malt palate and subdued hop notes in the finish. We used an authentic Belgian yeast strain for complexity. The beer will be available in 22oz bottles and will be features on draft at Taco Mac restaurants in Georgia later this summer. Pours a brownish deep red. Nose is oak, wood and fruity. Taste is full of flavor, sweet with raisins and fruit. No appreciable bitterness, finish is dry, sweet and short. Alcohol masked quite well. Nice SA. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Nice flavor, dark pour. Some fruit taste, like dates. Overall, nice taste and good flavor. A little earthy, but a solid Scotch Ale.

Beer whatever for the Richmond Gathering 17, I’ll have to check out where I am at when I get a chance. Medium to dark amber. Aroma slightly of alcohol, some dark fruits. Flavor is a match, good residual sweetness, but not enough flavor my taste.

Solid Maltiness, sweet flowery yeast esters. Standard malt flavors- caramel, toffee, cereal. Nothing Fancy or exciting, but still more boring than even a well made Scottish ale would be. On tap at the 12 South Winter Warmer beer festival in Nashville, TN.

Bottle at The Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours lightly hazy brown with a small, off-white head. Lightly toasted malts, caramel, modest yeast in the aroma. Sweet flavor, some caramel, spices, bread, yeast, fruits. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Faintly warming finish, light sticky sugars, caramel, light fruit, some nuts and toffee. Not bad.

Pours reddish brown w/ a 1" quickly dissipating tan head. Atomas of caramel, dark cherry, sugar and booze. Belgian yeast is secondary under the malty sweetness - a hint of saddle soap. Mouth is syrupy sweetness & lt carb that becomes dry rather than cloying. Med body. Flavors are cherry, caramel, milk chocolate. Hint of smoke and some bitterness balances things out fairly well. Alcohol and vanilla notes on finish. I liked it and wouldn’t mind another bottle.

Ths poured a cloudy brown color with a beige head. Aroma was malty caramel, some peat, and belgian yeasty sweetness. Flavor was caramel, some brown sugar and dark candy sugar. Somewhat interesting, pretty much what i expected from a belgian scotch ale.

Bottle. Moderate roasted and milk chocolate for the malt, light herbs for the hops, light to moderate dough for the yeast with raisin, brown sugar and alcohol in the background. Head is small, fizzy, off-white to light tan, with fair lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is hazy mahogany. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet, lightly acidic and faintly bitter. Palate is medium, creamy with a soft carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. Typical Scotch Ale qualities with some nice sweet malty overtones.
