Teaming up with Terrapin Brewing Co. for the second time, Shmaltz Brewing returns as a production partner for Reunion ’12. We brew Reunion each year in memory of our dear friend and partner in the venture - Virginia MacLean. Virginia lost her battle to Multiple Myeloma in 2007. It was her wish that we continue to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org).

This year’s beer is a dark ale brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and cinnamon. It was inspired by a fantastic dessert that we used to share with Virginia at our favorite restaurant. This brown ale leads with a sweet and subtle cinnamon aroma. Complex malt overtones quickly give way to a chocolate and vanilla mix of satisfying bliss.

Many thanks to all who have supported this project and have helped us honor Virginia’s memory.

Cheers - Pete & Alan

Great aroma of cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is first malty chocolate and vanilla, with subtle spice, then the cinnamon kicks in and leaves a peppery and deep spice tingle. This is my kind of warming ale.

Bottle. Dark brown, creamy cappucino head. Spicy aroma, slight sour note, cocoa, cinnamon. Milk chocolate and spices, liquid praline. Nice enough at first if you get into a dessert mood. Fairly sweet, mellow full body. Vanilla, light hoppy finish. Gets too candyish and sweet after a while.

deep brown with a red tint when held to the light. Nose is almost all cinnamon. Medium bodied. Flavor is a great blend of cinnamon and chocolate, and the vanilla finishes. Very drinkable, and a perfect winter beer.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark brown with a modest tan head and a cinnamon aroma. There is a medium-bodied treacle flavor with chocolate, vanilla and lots of cinnamon. Pretty complex.

22oz bottle 9/30/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-42° in Lager Glass-Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and malt. Taste of the same with a lot of cocoa and vanilla coming though. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and goes down super smooth. I love these two breweries collaborating on this brew. It kicks butt.

Good beer for a good cause. Dark mahogany with a thick off white head. The nose shows off the Cinammon and chocolate. The palate is extremely sweet, backed up by a massive malt backbone. This is good, but extremely rich and sweet. One to share for sure.

22 oz. bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a brown color with a two finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is cinnamon and toasted malt. Flavor is toasted malt, vanilla, light chocolate, and cinnamon. All the flavors linger in the finish. Medium to full body. A good beer. Thanks Jason.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dense dark brown color with a frothy medium khaki head that has good retention. The aroma is mild with vanilla, cocoa and well roasted grain. The flavor is a big blast of cocoa, dark bitter chocolate, walnuts and vanilla. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry with lingering bitter chocolates. Overall: Very impressive!
