COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Teaming up with Terrapin Brewing Co. for the second time, Shmaltz Brewing returns as a production partner for Reunion ’12. We brew Reunion each year in memory of our dear friend and partner in the venture - Virginia MacLean. Virginia lost her battle to Multiple Myeloma in 2007. It was her wish that we continue to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org).

This year’s beer is a dark ale brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and cinnamon. It was inspired by a fantastic dessert that we used to share with Virginia at our favorite restaurant. This brown ale leads with a sweet and subtle cinnamon aroma. Complex malt overtones quickly give way to a chocolate and vanilla mix of satisfying bliss.

Many thanks to all who have supported this project and have helped us honor Virginia’s memory.

Cheers - Pete & Alan

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a dark brown color with a large, almost creamy, khaki head. The nose is cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla, and a little wood. Heavy vanilla and cinnamon on the palate with sweetness up front fading to a mildly bitter finish. Flat and thin on the tongue. Way too much vanilla in this brew. Not for me.

Pours brown with fizzy white head. Nice malt aroma with strong nutmeg components. Very nice brown ale flavor with cocoa and spice. Only complaint is with the mouthfeel. Comes off as a bit fizzy. I’d like it better if it were richer/silkier. A real winner nonetheless.

Aroma of chocolate, nutmeg, slight cinnamon. Unexpected and vibrant. Dark brown black, off white, beige head leaving good lacing. Immediate chocolate followed by slight vanilla, some cinnamon and then a general earthy malt. Glad I picked this guy up, worthy tribute beer. Has a nice medium to full mouthfeel and body.

Bottle shared by the group (maybe Chris). Pours a clear dark brown color with a small to medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma is cocoa, light fruity notes, cinnamon and light spices with some lactose like sweetness. The flavor is cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, light fruits and moderate sweetness. Decent, nothing stands out.

Brown with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon. The flavor is more of the same. I get a ton of cinnamon notes up front, with some nice cocoa and vanilla notes filling in the gaps. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle from holiday 8 pack. Not sure why this is listed as spice herb vegetable. Pours deep mahogany, with sweet nose of baked goods. Tastes of caramel, cocoa, roasted malts, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, and wood. Creamy mouthfeel

~strong aroma of caramel malt, bread and cinnamon along with subtle vanilla. It is a very sweet aroma a bit cloying. ~pours a brownish amber color with quickly disappearing light brown head. ~Strong cinnamon bread flavor with caramel and light roastiness. ~Medium bodied with medium CO2, Lingering sweet cinnamon finish. ~The sweet and spice are a bit cloying on this. Would only want to have one of these at the most.

Very good. Chocolate and vanilla are most prevalent. Slight citrus hints. Coffee finish. Thick and full but smooth. Good stuff ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
