3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 gramity (1056) - Edmonton, Alberta, - DEC 30, 2012Deep ruby red, brown, the head big and frothy like an ice cream float. The aroma is big and chewy ... rife with caramel, malt balls, cocoa. The beer drinks with a chocolate milk character up front, a bit thinner than that but otherwise good
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ccex (797) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 21, 2013
May favorite brew from Shmaltz so far. 2012 bomber pours a dark brown with ruby highlights with small tan head and a little lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, mint, and vanilla. Tastes sweet but not cloying. Body is medium to full with minimal carbonation and a slightly sticky but creamy mouthfeel. A great dessert beer.

A very nice dark beer. Pours a thick black with a light tan head. Smells great, like smoky vanilla. Very tasty, get the cinnamon and vanilla, with a lightly smoky finish. Kind of like a redwood tree. Very good!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 J_man (537) - Tustin, California, USA - APR 16, 2013
Very unusual and strong aromas of cotton candy sugar, cherries, chocolate and a hint of molasses. Beautiful crystal clear medium dark brown and mahogany color with a foamy light tan head. The sugary sweetness shows up immediately followed by candied fruit sweetness and cocoa along with a dry woody taste and feel. Although it’s hard to distinguish the hop flavor, they do seem to come in and tame the sweetness well along with the charred malt dryness. A vanilla creaminess in the body and flavor shows up late to the game and helps balance some of the dryness. The alcohol is evident but not overpowering, and definitely provides a counter to the sweetness. Finishes with the candied sweetness and cocoa and dark chocolate flavors. There’s a lot going on here and although it seems initially somewhat disjointed, it’s also somehow held together well in the end.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 trujahwarrior (268) - Monroe, Washington, USA - APR 14, 2013
Pours a dark brown color with a thick fluffy khaki head that leaves pretty good lacing. Smells of chocolate and vanilla and roasted malt. Tastes of all the same things in the smell and cinnamon. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and silky with medium carbonation. This is the definition of a great desert beer. The use of cocoa nibs, vanilla, and cinnamon work perfectly. Slightly better than last years version in my opinion.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 wxman (1175) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - APR 5, 2013
Pours a clear dark cola color with a big full large bead light tan head. Aroma is vanilla and burnt sugar. Smooth, with a surprisingly thin texture, but very tasty. Lots of brown sugar and maple syrup in the taste, along with more vanilla, a little Hershey’s chocolate syrup and a fairly assertive hop bitterness. All in all, a really good dark ale.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Strykzone (3814) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Bomber. A dark brown pour with red. A nice thick beige head. Rich chocolate malts are smelled with some nice dark fruit and vanilla. The flavor is bold with chocolate and vanilla out front. Vanilla is tasted. Fruit is tasted but is almost buried by the bolder flavors. Bitterness is not big and is just a little different. Some spiciness shows up late and it is from the hops. The feel is thick and a bit fizzy. This might try to do a little too much but is flavorful and interesting. It scores a little higher for me but not really for the right reasons.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 HighWine (842) - Whalesbro, Illinois, USA - MAR 20, 2013
Bottle to narrow chalice. Dark brown pour with a khaki head that thins but doesn’t totally vanish. Above average lacing on the glass. Aroma of brown sugar, molasses, rum, and faint cinnamon. Mmm, interesting flavor. First impression on the tongue is vanilla, big vanilla. Next is heat from cinnamon and combination of the hops which reminds of ancho chiles. Finish is black cinnamon vanilla flavored coffee with lingering bitterness in the back of the mouth. This beer is unique in a good way. Kind of curious to age one for a year or so and see what it does.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 drpimento (1936) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Super beer! Poured at a good temperature with a collassal, foamy, frothy, fluffy, light tan head that settled very slowly and lots of lace. Color is a dark mahoganey with some tiny bubble trails. Aroma is great - vanilla, roast, malt, hint of cinnamon. Flavor’s like nose and has very good balance all the way around, sweet, carbonic tang, and bitter. The rich flavors are tamed just right. Body & carbonation are just right. Finish is like flavor although there’s a medicinal component that detracts. Finish is also long. I had a piece of habanero jack cheese and it messed up my mouth, so this review is provisional.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mansquito (2504) - Nueva York, New York, USA - MAR 6, 2013
New Beer Distributors, NY 650ml ($7): Pours dark brown with a brownish head. Aroma is pretty much just chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon. I think chocolate is pretty much the main draw here. Taste is slightly bitter and much less sweet than was expected. Basically, the taste has a load of bittersweet chocolate with some spicy tinges on top. Vanilla is present in the long lingering aftertaste. Alcohol is well covered. Not exactly my preferred style but good.
