COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Teaming up with Terrapin Brewing Co. for the second time, Shmaltz Brewing returns as a production partner for Reunion ’12. We brew Reunion each year in memory of our dear friend and partner in the venture - Virginia MacLean. Virginia lost her battle to Multiple Myeloma in 2007. It was her wish that we continue to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org).

This year’s beer is a dark ale brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and cinnamon. It was inspired by a fantastic dessert that we used to share with Virginia at our favorite restaurant. This brown ale leads with a sweet and subtle cinnamon aroma. Complex malt overtones quickly give way to a chocolate and vanilla mix of satisfying bliss.

Many thanks to all who have supported this project and have helped us honor Virginia’s memory.

Cheers - Pete & Alan

Aroma of chocolate, nutmeg, slight cinnamon. Unexpected and vibrant. Dark brown black, off white, beige head leaving good lacing. Immediate chocolate followed by slight vanilla, some cinnamon and then a general earthy malt. Glad I picked this guy up, worthy tribute beer. Has a nice medium to full mouthfeel and body.

Pours a dark brown almost black color with tan head. Cocoa nibs, vanilla, cinnamon, and some roasted malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more roasted malt and a little sweet note.

Bottle @ home via rotbox. Pours a deep brown appearance with a thin brown head. Aroma is bursting with chocolate, caramel, light smoke, vanilla, and candy bar. There’s some ginger and cinnamon in the aroma as well. Medium bodied. A ton of vanilla, toasty burnt bread, chocolate, and toffee in the flavor. Moderately sweet. Booze held in check. Not a horrible beer but there’s just too much going on and they added just too much junk.

Bottled and served in snifter: Pours a deep amber, near brown with a fading head and spotty lace. Really nice cinnamon and cocoa overtones with some vanilla bean and toasted bread. The finish seems watered down but that is my only major complaint. Drink now.

[5374-20130524] 650mL bottle. Chocolatey floral pine-infused roasted malt aroma has a hint of toilet cleaner. Clear, dark brown red body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head. Roasted chocolatey malt flavour. Full body. Quite tasty. (8/4/8/4/16) 4.0

bottle on 4/30/14 - Pours dark brown with a small tan head. It smells of cocoa, cinnamon, and plenty of malt. The taste is very sweet with chocolate and spice. The 8% abv is not noticeable. Very good.

22oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Specific classification: Spiced Imperial Brown Ale. A - Pours very dark brown with a rather fragile and frothy tan head. Aroma: A spicy mix of roasted dark malts, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla with a hint of raisins. T - A cascade of flavors, but cinnamon and vanilla are prominent throughout. Dark chocolate appears mid-taste and, joined by milkly coffee, lingers in the aftertaste. Mildly sweet although, ultimately, balanced by some bitterness. M - Medium/full bodied with moderate+ carbonation; semi-dry finish. O - A fine sipping ale. Sweet enough to work best after a meal. While I liked the substantial vanilla and cinnamon, these are prominent enough to partially mask the underlying malts and may be too prominent for some.

Pours dark brown with khaki head. Nose is roasty dark malt, vanilla, cacao. Tastes dark malty, with big vanilla, cacao, cinnamon, and a medium palate heft.

Bottle. The pour is a dark brown with amber hues. The aroma is very strong. Cinnamon and nutmeg at the nose big time. The taste is classic holiday spice. Very warm taste to it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black but is dark red when held to light. Head is two finger thick mostly tan with a cream layer on top. Smells like raisin to me but not in a bad way. Taste is of cinnamon, cocoa, and coffee with a lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is average carbonation and thickness. Overall interesting and good for a dark unique beer.

Pours light black with frothy creamy light brown head, lasting with lace. Aroma is dessert-like; cinnamon, chocolate, light sweet roast. Cinnamon predominates. Flavor is much the same, cocoa and cinnamon, some vanilla. Medium body. Semi dry semi sweet cinnamon finish.
