My bottle [650ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jercraigs & mabel. Pours a dark, deep amber-red with a large long-lasting fluffy beige head. Aroma has lots of chocolate along with some vanilla, light spices, light hops and molasses. malty flavour along with dark fruit, vanilla, lots of chocolate and light leafy hops. Medium bodied. Like I mentioned, there’s lots of chocolate in this, it’s borderline too much -- but ultimately, it’s not.

2013-05-24. Very dark brown body large fluffy beige head. Sweetish aroma, sort of molassesy, notes of cocoa, caramel, Ovaltine. Hershey’s syrup, mild vanilla. Flavour is similar, quite sweet up front, cocoa, chocolate, vanilla and Ovaltine. Dusty malt touches in the finish linger into the finish. Smooth average plus bodied palate, carbonation. Enjoyable but just a touch too sweet overall. Bottle Shared by Blankboy

Scent is chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon...
Taste is heavy milk chocolate/cocoa, vanilla cream.
Slight cinnamon tingle,...chocolate powder...malty.
Very sweet, with a hint of bitter at finish...
A dessert, for certain.

22oz bottle shared by blankboy with me, jercraigs and mabel. Clear deep ruby with amber edges, large-ish lasting frothy/creamy tan head. Light aroma - chocolate milk, clover, light spice, a little sweet vanilla, not much alcohol. Taste - vanilla and Milky Way - a little grassy, but mostly chocolate and vanilla, some alcohol. Light and slick, mild carbonation, milky and hot chocolate finish. Nice.

May favorite brew from Shmaltz so far. 2012 bomber pours a dark brown with ruby highlights with small tan head and a little lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, mint, and vanilla. Tastes sweet but not cloying. Body is medium to full with minimal carbonation and a slightly sticky but creamy mouthfeel. A great dessert beer.

A very nice dark beer. Pours a thick black with a light tan head. Smells great, like smoky vanilla. Very tasty, get the cinnamon and vanilla, with a lightly smoky finish. Kind of like a redwood tree. Very good!

Very unusual and strong aromas of cotton candy sugar, cherries, chocolate and a hint of molasses. Beautiful crystal clear medium dark brown and mahogany color with a foamy light tan head. The sugary sweetness shows up immediately followed by candied fruit sweetness and cocoa along with a dry woody taste and feel. Although it’s hard to distinguish the hop flavor, they do seem to come in and tame the sweetness well along with the charred malt dryness. A vanilla creaminess in the body and flavor shows up late to the game and helps balance some of the dryness. The alcohol is evident but not overpowering, and definitely provides a counter to the sweetness. Finishes with the candied sweetness and cocoa and dark chocolate flavors. There’s a lot going on here and although it seems initially somewhat disjointed, it’s also somehow held together well in the end.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 trujahwarrior (284) - Monroe, Washington, USA - APR 14, 2013
Pours a dark brown color with a thick fluffy khaki head that leaves pretty good lacing. Smells of chocolate and vanilla and roasted malt. Tastes of all the same things in the smell and cinnamon. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and silky with medium carbonation. This is the definition of a great desert beer. The use of cocoa nibs, vanilla, and cinnamon work perfectly. Slightly better than last years version in my opinion.
