Dark Ale Brewed with Cocoa Nibs, Vanilla and Cinnamon Collaboration with Shmaltz Brewing Company This year’s beer is a similar dark ale to the one we brewed for Reunion ’11. It’s  brewed with cocoa nibs from our friends at Olive and Sinclair in Nashville, vanilla, and this year cinnamon. The flavor begins with complex malt overtones and quickly gives way to the chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Inspired by rich mugs of Mexican hot chocolate this is going to be especially good with BBQ, Mole and Churro…maybe from your favorite local food truck?

An interesting combination cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa nibs. It doesn’t sound like a winner, but wow! A slight cinnamon aroma, then the taste hits you with slightly sweet vanilla cinnamon combo with a faint cocoa underpinning. Excellent!

Pours a warm brown. Heavy cinnamon and vanilla in the aroma. Taste isn’t quite as heavy on the cinnamon, but it’s certainly there, along with a good bit of chocolate and malt. Great finish.

Interesting collaboration between terrapin and Schmaltz. Similar to the 2011 from last year, maybe a little sweeter than I remember. You can really taste the chocolate and spice that went into this one. The sweetness is a bit distracting after a few sips, best shared with friends or with a small pour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours very dark brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of roasted, caramel, and chocolate malts, more chocolate, some vanilla, and a decent amount of hops. Flavor the same, with a nice blend. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

Pours brown with orange hue. Very little head. Aroma of cinnamon, chocolate, and malts.Taste is malty and bready, with spices on the front end. Reminds me of a mild winter warmer.

Wow, another combination brew from two of my favorite breweries. Not so sure about the combinations in this one though. Decent sized tan head of fine bubbles. Lots of cinnamon in the aroma with some ginger and flowers upon deep inhale. Color is a very dark mahagony brown. Ohhh, surprisingly smooth and lively flavor. Up front vanilla and a hint of cocoa then mellows out to some smooth and soft malts. The cinnamon in very minor in the flavor unlike in the aroma. No real alcohol presence. This brew really surprised me. Not at all what I expected from reading the bottle and from the aroma. Pretty bereft of hops though which is standard for the style but unusual for Terrapin. Right up Schmaltz’s alley with their bombastic malt bombs which I love so much! Another fine combination brew!

(22oz bomber) cloudy medium rich brown with a Thai creamy medium tan colored head that lasts forever. Nose of cream, cinnamon, spices, peppers, rich chocolate. Taste of Mexican chocolate, spicy, cocoa, nutty, roasty, hazelnut, coffee, complex and unique. Creamy linger, medium body.

It pours dark brown with a thin white head that leaves little lacing. The aroma is primarily chocolate and vanilla. This beer is very smooth and drinkable. It has a creamy mouthfeel and then ends with a touch of bitterness. Easily one of the most complex and tasty browns I’ve tried and quite possibly the best yet!

Grabbed from Knightly Spirits on a whim and enjoyed watching a thunderstorm. This was tasty and pretty, crazy complex for a brown ale. Picked up most of the ingredients but the cinamon seemed shy. Yummy.
