Bottle 0,5 l. Mid copper, small beigish head. Nose is malty, some berries and roastiness. Flavor is toasty, caramel roasted yet dry, bitterish, herbal and nutty. Really nice surprise for a dunkel and definately one of my faves in the genre I usually don’t care much about. Not as sweet as dunkels often are.

Coppery colored with little yellow head. Chocolaty-nutty aroma with some grains and vegetables, good dunkel aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is more roasted with nuts in start, caramel also here with some burnt tone. Aftertaste dries with flowery vegetables and some cookie note. Good and original dunkel.

Bottled (from beerangel.de). Deep coppery amber colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is bready, caramel malty along with some slight nutty notes. Flavour is coffee, sweet wood, some mild roasted motes as well as some slight nuttyness. Almost smoked in the finish. Quite dry palate as well. A pleasant and quite different dunkel. Crispy, but smooth carbonation.

Poured a light red/brown with a foamy, nicely laced off-white head. A lot of malts on the nose with notes of coffee, caramel, roasted nuts and chocolate in the flavour. Smooth, bitter and mildly spicy finish.

Pours attractive garnet brown with a huge tan, smooth foamy head. The nose is sweet and slightly roasted malt. The flavor is the same with a clean finish.

Pours clear brown with a decent 0ff-white head and nice lacing. Straw, caramel, metal, and toasted bread in the aroma. Taste is watery and weak. More straw with bread crusts, caramel and roasted malt, just not a lot of it. Some earthy nuttiness when it warmed, but not enough to get excited about.

This is a great dunkel and I’m so far not been a big fan of dunkels. It’s dark copper brown with a very big tan head that slowly shrinks to a lasting head and leaves a little lace. The aroma is toasted bread, burnt crust, grain and feed, with a hint of chocolate and licorice. The taste is toasty grain, with a hint of coffee, hint of cola, dark toasted bread, and a faint, dry, leafy bitternes . It’s a bit watery but has nice range and depth of flavours, great balance, lighty sweet with a light spicey bitter finish, smooth and tasty.

A brisk pour produces an almost four-finger thick, lightly amber tinged, tan colored head that just crests the top of my 25cl tulip glass. The beer is a murky, dark amber / red color but shows a brilliantly clear, cranberry stained, bright amber color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite malt focused as this is noticeable upon pouring the beer. Sweet, caramelized malt notes are backed by ample toasty malt notes. Aromas of biscuits, lightly toasted – yet hardy dark German bread, light raisin / berry notes and even a touch of lightly roasted coffee in the finish. I really like how malty and rich this beer’s nose is; quite satiating all by itself.

Sweet tasting up front, but actually surprisingly light bodied for how rich the aroma was. Quaffable just like a good Dunkel should be and it has a nice, persistent carbonation that adds a bit of a prickly texture to the brew. Richly toasted malt notes evoke flavors of chewy, whole grain bread, light raisin notes. Perhaps a bit thin up front, but the rich, albeit not thick, malt character soaks into the palate and boosts the perceived richness of this brew. A touch of age is starting to show through the malt here; it contributes a light sherry note that only seems to add to the complexity more than anything.

A tasty brew, I really like the deep maltiness that this beer attains. Definitely a satisfying drinking experience.

From a 500 ml bottle this poured into a pint glass was a nice reddish brown with a very fat and thick creamy head that settled very slowly and left nice lacing. Aroma of caramel malts and light coffee and chocolate. Medium but enjoyable mouthfeel, and flavors of toffee and nuts. Medium dry finish. Pretty good.
