Bottle. Clear medium red brown color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, moderate nutty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (080108)

Bottle courtesy of the boss! Hey, she tried. A nice enjoyable, medium-everything dunkel. Nothing extravagent, but nothing to really complain about. Great appearance as it boasts a nice frothy two finger head. Flavor picked up a bit of caramel, toffee, and nut - as expected, with a touch of water. Overall, an enjoyable beer, and pretty much what I was expecting considering the abv.

Mahogony colored with honey, bready, lightly plumlike, caramel aroma. Huge head due to high carbonation, which is probably the weakest element of the beer. No lacing. Flavor is nice (Caramel sweetness turning to light ly dry) but weak, bubbly & watery. If the beer had higher gravity, it would be overwhelmingly good due to the wonderful aroma notes . As is, quite easy to drink & unchallenging.

Reddish brown, some head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel, nut, toast, touch of hops. Medium to light body, lightly sweet. Fairly enjoyable, but a little simple.

Bottle; L7150 (whatever that imparts). Rich caramel aroma, backed by coffee and chocolate. Deep mahogany color topped with a beige head that is respectable. Full bodied, with creamy carbonation. The flavor is caramel, with something wet paperish/earthy - not a bad thing - works well. Persistence brings up some chocolate. The finish is more dry than sweet, and there are dark notes - like a mix of chocolate, coffee and something I can’t put my tongue on - could be nuttiness. Very drinkable.

500ml bottle shared with Finn. Light brown body. Good creamy head retention. Smell of coffee and cocoa. Moderate liquorice flavour against a chocolate malty backbone. Bittersweet ending. A bit like a brown ale to my taste (at a garden party in Ingolstadt, 20.06.2007).

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2008 My first real dive into Germans; mainly been attracted to American micros and Belgians beforehand. A beautiful beer here. Very sweet and fruity aromas. The taste is fairly light and watery, and a bit of, I dare say, a meat flavor? It’s a lot of things, but one thing is not is "bad." Enjoy this one, it’s good.

Another fine example of the dunkel style, one that is admitedly a little boring. The pour was standard chestnut brown in color, nice offwhite frothy head with excellent retention, just saw there, somewhat pillowy. The aroma was nutty and chocolate. The flavor was nutty, grassy, chocolate, herbal/earthy, caramel, and also had a touch of coffee. Mouthfeel was full for the style, yet well attenuated and somewhat dry even thin in the big scheme of the beer world. Nice stuff, probably close to amazing fresh on tap in Germany.
