Kosmokrator (455) - ITALY - APR 14, 2014

Teku glass. Bottle. Deep dark brown with great, two finger beige head, and pretty nice lacing. The aroma is great, very strong and characteristic - roasted malts, earthy, resin, gooseberry, soy sauce, balanced with hoppy citrus and fruit aromas. The taste is sharp bitter, with some goosberry, woody and ash notes. The bitterness is really noticable and for some colud be confusing. The finish is hoppy with it’s grassy and resionus bitterness. Dry, full body beer. Medium carbonation. Thick/oily texture. In overall very good black IPA, really unique in it’s aroma and taste.

Bottle, at 42. An unclear brown beer with a small beige head. Lots of piney hops in the aroma, like hop pellets. Citrus peel and roasted malts too. Coffee and some dark chocolate too. Lots of bitterness in the flavor, with roasted malts and coffee. Full body, soft carbonation. Long bitter, piney finish. Wow, I like this. 140215

larsga (6120) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 14, 2014
Medium brown head. Opaque black body goes hazy dark brown at edges. Earthy roasty resiny aroma with gooseberry and soy sauce notes. Dry-sweet roasty earthy chocolatey taste with toffee, mint and roasted coffee notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish earthy roasty chocolatey aftertaste with orangey minty gooseberry notes. Lovely! Highly drinkable, full of flavour, and very harmonic. A hugely successful marriage of the roasty earthy flavours with minty gooseberry hops. (0.33l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika.)

Palme (3163) - Bergen, NORWAY - JAN 13, 2014
0.33l bottle. Really deep dark brown in the glass this, tempted to call it licorice black and it has a medium sized quickly fading bubbly and sidesticking light brown top. The nose has wet gunpowder, a little bit of licorice, dark roasted malts and some traces of cold coffee. Non extreme indeed, but nice enough. Would not immediately identify this as a black IPA. More so in the taste. I get zesty bitterness and sweetness, dark cocoa, lots of toast, roasted sweetness. It has a good oily mouthfeel and not much traces of the alcohol. It feels quite balanced this, definitely not way over the board to complex in any way but actually quite tasty. 03.08.2013
