3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
20th February 2014
Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Colin. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild carbonation. Smooth dark malts with sweet tangy coffee and chocolate. Touch of cherry. Smooth dry finish. Pretty tasty and hides the big abv well.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours pitch black with a Nice nut Brown head. Aroma has an almost Belgian sweetness and fruityness to the yeast with dates and shit. Some licorice and a slight roast too. Taste has Heavy vanilla and Dark, dry chocolate. Very round mouth feel, and is pretty milkshake-like. A Strange mix between something extremely delicate and a fluffy kid pleasing sweetness. Dunno if that's a good thing. Very Well hidden alcohol.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is overall kinda sweet and this sweetness reminds me of some belgian yeast esters from belgian quads. Quite funny. This means lots of dark fruits, ripe plums and toffee but also some chocolate, vanilla and a weak note of lacto sweetness. Taste is like BOOM vanilla milkshake or something. ALOT of vanilla and a thick sweet lacto profile along with some dark fruits, caramel, toffee, weak roasted notes and some sweet milk chocolate as well. A bit sweet in the long run but the alcohol is really well hidden. Funny mix between some belgian candy stuff and some impystoutnotes.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a still jet black with no bubbles - looks like ink. Aroma is of raisin, liquorice, alcohol. The mixture of sweetness + alcohol brings to mind decaying fruit. I hate to judge a beer by its cover but my first thought on smelling this was, 'I can tell I probably won't like this.' Taste was very burnt roasted malt, quite acidic and cloyingly sweet. Made me think of spiced cough syrup. I found this quite unpleasant, very harsh and overly sweet.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle split at Josh’s Farewell Fling, acquired from 4:20, 20/02/14.
Light black with a faded tan covering.
Nose is light roast, soy sauce, chocolate, dark toffee, spice, liqourice.
Taste comprises chocolate, dark malts, brown sugars, liqourice, molasses.
Medium + in bodiment, fine carbonation, light warming alcohol in the close.
Ok impy but not a huge amount of depth for 13%, was this really 13% ABV? It just seemed a little thin throughout, I have my doubts!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle shared in London for my farewell drinks. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is very roasty with dry cocoa and a hint of liquorice. Taste is roast, mild chocolate, a little dirty earth, quite powdery feel to it. Balanced well. Solid but doesn’t really have any depth

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2014 Pitch black pour. Only the tiniest bit of carbonation. Sweet licorice aroma. Sickly sweet cough syrupy taste with roasted tinge. Sweet finish with bit of booziness but doesn't seem like 14%.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours near black with a small tan rim. The nose is roasted malt, dark chocolate gateaux, booze, toffee, tiramisu and candy. The taste is sweet, boozy, oily, coffee cake, varnish, booze, cherry, chocolate and earth. Mediumish body and low carbonation. Hides booze well, but no real depth. Alright, but a bit sweet.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared in London to send off Josh. Thanks to Colin for yet another Rev Cat. Pours clear, dark brown with a frothy light beige head. Dark malts on the nose, dark fruits, light grapes, berries, nips of chocolate. Medium sweet flavor, some sugary chocolate, dark berries, dark bread, mellow earthy bitterness, medium bodied with fine carbonation. Surprisingly little alcohol warmth to finish if this beer really is 13%. Some further sugary chocolate to finish, ripe and dark fruits. Quite tasty if a bit basic.
