2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
20th February 2014
Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Light haze on this amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooty and dry. Light fine carbonation. Bittersweet caramel malt. Piney hops, mildly bitter. Cucumber or something of that ilk! Bittersweet dry finish. Odd and not the Cats finest moment.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beer is clear, amber with small head. Sweet, matly aroma, I can’t feel any hops. Taste is sweet with light, but very smooth bitter finish. A little warming alcohol, but not much. Full body with minimal carbonation. Nice, but not shocking.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle shared in London for my farewell drinks. Cheers to Colin. Pours clear yellow with a small beige head. Nose is mild toffee, quite earthy, some tangy orange, floral and very nutty. Taste is nutty, sweet honey, treacle, tangy and herbal. Lacks any depth or balance. Weird flavour combos. Ok

Medium sweet flavor with toasted doughy bread, butterscotch, honey, toffee, dates. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary finish, some toffee, more meat and butterscotch, lightly toasted bread, a bit of pine and earth. So so.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I am not a fan of bocks, doppelbocks either, but this one is quite interesting. Apart from standard caramel, malty notes, you’ll trace quite existing hoppy aroma. It’s very drinkable with very bitter finish, which is something unusual for doppelbocks. I’ve also traced moderate amount of umami.
