Draft in a tulip at the Gage, Michigan Ave. Well, almost every beer they serve comes in a tap. But for this style itís appropriate. Very slight haze of a light copper beer with a thin head. Smell of American IPA hops, citrus and pine from likely Cascade and Columbia, maybe some Amarillo. But I can also smell some warm malts at the same time. Tasting hands the baton back to the hops, which are more bitter than the bouquet. Strong backbone of malts slowly reasserts itself. Good for sipping with the gageís signature fish & chips (French Fries more than the English style chips, I believe).

Tried both draft and can during last trip to Chicago. Slightly hazy golden appearance with ample head. Balanced flavor and easy to session. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dry Amber color. Big caramel malt and tropical fruit notes. Big malty back bone really nice. Full body. Not sophisticated but balanced IPA.

Flavor is, as one might expect, very bitter up front, though some of the citrus notes and malt sweetness do step in to give some balance. A slight spicy, almost black-pepper tinge also sneaks in on middle of the tongue

My Bottom Line:
This classic American IPA showcases citrus fruit and floral honey in a lean and super clean profile, set in solid bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sliver of foam laces nicely around the shiny dark golden.
-This may not be the most memorable IPA, but it sure hits the spot.
-This is quenching.
-The mouthfeel is refined.

On tap at the Milwaukee Avenue location.

Tap at Lou Malnatiís on Rush. Aroma is grapefruit, strawberry jam, biscuit malt, hay. Appearance is clear dark orange with minimal head. Taste is mostly bitter grapefruit with some pine. Palate is clean. Really good beer.

Poured from can to glass. Golden hue with fizzy white head that dissipated to a ring. Aroma is melon, grapefruit, tangerine, pine, honey, cereal. Taste is sweet initially with a bitter following that blends with a nutty finish. Overall this is an interesting IPA that is more grainy tasting than your typical representation.

Tap at AQ Bevolution 2nd Anniversary event at Yellow Ape Craft. Balanced nose, peachy, caramel, citrusy hopping. Clear medium amber color. Creamy caramel initial, very juicy hopping in mid, back to sweet malt in late mid and final. Medium body. Nice and chewy. Good balance, though it does get a bit sweet in final. A good standard IPA, juiced up a bit.

Tap at Yellow Ape. Sweet stone fruits, oranges and peaches. Strong bitterness. Deep golden-orange color. A bit too bitter, but decent.

On tap at the AQ Bevolution x Yellow Ape Event. New to Japan is Revolution Brewingís Anti-Hero IPA. A light copper gold with minimal head and a juicy fruity hop bouquet. The taste is a clean bitterness, herbal, earthy pint with some light spice biscuity character from the malts. A nice solidly satisfying IPA.

Can. Copper color with off-white head and substantial lacing. Pine aroma. Grapefruit, citrus, and pine balanced by malt. Slightly resiny finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
