A dark bock made with German Pilsner, Munich, Caramunich and Carafa malts. Aged cold for 5 weeks for a clean finish and named for the goat-headed demon.

On tap at the brewpub -- notes from April 7th, 2011.
Pours a mahogany red-brown with mocha head that leaves nice bits of lace in its wake. Aroma is rich malt and dark bread (pumpernickel-like), with a whiff of leafy hops. Flavor is mostly the same but with a more aggressive hop profile that is a little too strong for the style; toasty-grainy dry aftertaste with medium-body. Iíve had better and Iíve had worse.

On draft at the brewpub. Rye Malty nose. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Smooth medium Malty body. Charred malts toffee and caramel. Bitter and tasty. Dry finish with a good amount of hops. Itís starts to get sweet overtime. But I like the malts a lot. 7/3/8/3/15

sampled at the brewpub. pours a medium toffee brown and topped with an off white head.... nose has toffee, sweeter malts, and a touch of bitterness on the backend.. flavors have caramel, light bread and overwhelmed with a biting bitter finish. prickly aggressive carbonation.

draft at the pub. pours caramel with off white head around the rim. nose has toffee, aged tobacco. flavors have caramel, grain husk, clean lager finish but prickly alc and astringent grain and bitter finish. not bad.

Draft at Revolution. Pours a deep amber with a sticky and lasting off white head. Excellent clarity. Nose is a bit subdued, but then starts to come out with some light bready melanoidins. Soft toasty malts and light sweet notes. On taste, moderately sweet and the bittering charge is a touch heavy handed. Nice and rich melanoidin component, Munich fruitiness and very clean. Very well attenuated as well. Just a touch too bitter. Damn fine beer.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2011 On-tap at the pub.... I hate to say it but this is one of the true disappointments Iíve had from Revolution... The body is dark purplish brown, hardly any head to speak of... The aroma is very bread, dark fruits, figs mostly. Not bad but boring... The taste is just bad, very chemical and harsh with lots of alcohol poking through.

POurs deep amber/brown hue with nice malt/bread notes. It is a medium bodied beer that shows heavy malt notes throughout and gives a bit of a sweet candy finish. Had at the Brewpub on tap.

Poured from a growler picked up at the brewpub. Clear, brown-amber colored body with a finger-width, frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is deeper caramel with some toasty bread, florals, a light grass, some hints of plum, and a touch of earth. Flavor is similar. Nice caramel sweetness with some toasty bread up front quickly balanced by a light earth and grass. Some florals, plums, and a light cocoa before this finishes dry with a nice earth and grass for a light-moderate bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a light-medium, very smooth and clean body with a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid bock. The hops definitely help in the finish and keep this very sessionable and balanced, but it remains smoothly malted with some pleasant fruits. Good one.

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicagon IL). Pours a gorgeous ruby brown hue, light haze, but largely dark and deep on colors. A huge tannnish light brown head atop that laces a-ok. Aromas are mellow, toasty bread and biscuits pair with a dose of of florals and faint citrus. Some more toast, perhaps some sweeter toffee but nothing overbearing. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied with a very nice melange of malts leading the way. Toffee, toast, and touches of bready and yeasty malts move into a touch of dark fruit cherry and plum, with some raisins, touches of yeast, mellowed toast and biscuits take over into the middle. The finish leaves crisp malts and toasty bread, with bready and doughy malts following. Touches of florals and grass on the backend dry it out a bit, with malty bread, touches of pretzels, and light deeper toffee sweetness hanging on. A clean darker lager with good depth of flavor, balance, keeping true to a malt forward style. Toasty and light sweetness, the hops make it a bit more lively instead of moving into a cloying realm or a sort of boozy realm I find synonomous with poorly made bocks. I really liked this. It might not be a style I go crazy for, but if thatís the case, then it must be pretty good if I enjoyed it this much. Tasty, if a bit malty (but then again, isnít it supposed to be?!). Cheers.
