On tap at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy brown with an amber hue and an off-white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a strong rye note with caramel and sweet grain and a hint of sweet bourbon. Flavor began with sweet grain and rye and was joined by sweet bourbon that had a bit of light.

F0BAB 2010: This p0ured a clear g0lden br0wn b0dy with a tan ring in lieu 0f a head. The ar0ma held a light b00ziness, a tad spicy, with a hint 0f vanilla and 0ak. It tasted sweet and malty, lightly bitter, with vanilla and alc0h0l. Less h0t than expected, it still made f0r a nice sipper kind 0f a beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Revo’s first BA’d beer! Pours a darker reddish copper, ruby red notes with brown, glowing orange edges. A small yet frothy khaki head atop stays small, yet doesn’t film. Big enough for the style. Aromas are a rich young Bourbon barrel element, vanilla and toffee, boozy warmth, wet oak, the rich caramel and toffee malts come from beneath. Touches of mellow rye, sweet biscuits. Sweeter, bigger barrel presence as the spirit takes hold. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, the barrel has thinned this thicker beer from later winter/early spring. Rich big oaky vanilla notes, the spirit takes full hold, with decadent flavors of Bourbon and and oak, sweet rich toffee and caramel, biscuits, toasty malts with a touch of rye. Smells sweeter than it is, perhaps aided by a lighter thinned out body. A warming finish, a bit too hot (and it’s thinner body seems to make this more obvious on the palate). The flavors are on, the beer has evolved from a base beer I was not crazy about. Spirit and malts, wet oaky vanilla and warmth. Some of the dark fruit from the base is covered up, slight spice lost. A bit thin and hot, with a nice tempering bitterness on the backend. A nice shot at a first go BA beer. Excited to see some of the others. Cheers

On tap at the brewpub into a snifter, I headed over after Sean and Kan went because they cannot out tick me !!!
An in between medium and dark brown with lots of coca cola on the sides, about a finger of light tan head ok retention and good retention...The aroma is nice, typical bourbon barrel aging done well lots of vanilla, but an added bonus of vanilla, with a light bouron finish, sweet overall but pretty nice, just not complex...The taste is decent, not at all complex and way too sweet. I hate to say this but it is a typical or generic barrel aged beer, or bw. Its nice just nothing new or special for a ba.
If you’re at Rev worth trying but nothing special.

Draft at Revolution. Pours a slightly murky deep mahogany with sticky head. Nose is spicy, a kiss of vanilla coming through. Not much booze in the nose. Some caramel and roast as well. On taste, the vanilla from the oak is a bit much. It pulls the base beer down to its level, rather than elevating it. Roasted coconut and a bit of spice. The body is very nice and the barrel didn’t add any discernible heat. Too bad the vanilla is so strong from the oak. It should be noted that I can’t see this beer being done any other way with a barrel, it just doesn’t seem to work so well. I’ll be interested to see the other barrel aged beers upcoming.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at revbrew... Pours a dark reddish toffee brown, mostly opaque, with a thin to medium creamy light beige head... Aroma of soft toffee and bourbon... Flavors have a soft to medium bourbon barrel influence, some sweet toffee and vanilla through the middle, and then finishes with a spicy rye presence. Body and mouthfeel started fluffy to begin with but finally mellowed out. Somewhat boozy with fair heat in the finish. A little warm overall but a quality first barrel aged effort.

Tap @ Rev. I was really excited to try their first barrel aged beer. Pours dark brown with a thin, slightly bubbly tan head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, sweet malt. Great bourbon flavor, it is a sipper, little bit of vanilla and wood. A little boozy and a little heat, but great beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at fobab 2010. Pours a deep unclear amber with a small light tan froth. Aroma is very vanilla with a touch of dark fruit and some maple and oaky wood notes. Flavor starts sweet with vanilla and maple, a bit earthy as the oak comes more forward. Plenty of sweet caramel and molasses towards a sweet but boozy finish. Medium to full body and a soft carbonation. Pretty overly sweet and candyish but not bad.
