3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at FoBAB 9. Pours black with a tannish head. The nose is a big punch of Woodford coconut/vanilla. Reminds me of vanilla frosting. On tasting, there is a nice roast, coconut and a fullness as well. Moderately sweet, enough backing from the roast and hops to keep it from cloying. Pretty well done BA beer and solid. Not my favorite from Rev, but far from bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted on 11/14/11 on draft at Revolution, very happy to try this, as I missed it at FoBAB. Pours a nearly opaque molasses dark brown with a thick, smooth light brown head that leaves a thin, smooth layer of lace. The nose is bourbon oak, with tons of toasted coconut, vanilla, caramel, maple, along with underlying dark chocolate and coffee. The flavor is, just like the nose, dominated by the coconut, vanilla, caramel, and maple bourbon, with the dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee making an appearance on the back of the palate. The body is full with lively, stinging carbonation, and a long hot whiskey, coconut, vanilla, and lightly bitter coffee finish. The idea is there, but the whiskey and barrel really took this one over a bit too much for my taste.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Revolution. Black pour with a tan head. Boozy notes. Bourbon, creamy dark malts, perhaps some lactose?, oak, and vanilla notes. A very nice BA sweet stout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is bigger with lots of bourbon-whiskey up front, but enough of the roasts pull through and seem to blend nicely. They arenít any bigger than what they were in the original, but the roasts go well with the bourbon to me. Some vanilla, oak, and pruney dark fruits with still a hint of the biscuity toffees and smooth oats from the original. Flavor is a bit more bourbon and vanilla forward, but remains pretty well balanced. Bourbon and oak up front with some biscuity toffee, chocolate, and prunes as well. I get a bit of the oats in the middle before the roasts come in towards the end. The roasts are light, but they really seem to linger with the bourbon and vanilla in a way that I like. Iím digging that essence of this. Some vanilla and caramel comes out at the end as the oaky bourbon blends with some chocolate and roast that has a bit of a dryness. Vanilla comes out more in a lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid barrel-aged oatmeal stout. There is lots of bourbon and vanilla, but there is enough of a chocolate, biscuity toffee, and roast from the original present. Iíve had better barrel aged beers from them, but I liked this one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap: The aroma consists of mikk chocolate, light vanilla, and coconut. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small beige head that leaves some nice webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light chocolate and a touch of tangy fruitiness. The finish has light roasted coffee and some faint coconut. Medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation. Overall, a solid stout with light barrel character.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the source. Served in a snifter... Pours a silky mostly black pour, nice consistency, and topped with a creamy medium khaki head that recedes to a thin frothy film. Edges become reddish after the head dissipates... Barrel forward aroma upfront with smooth toffee and vanilla tones with a touch of coconut. The base beer pokes through a touch to round things out... Flavors start promising with barrel notes and immediate hits of warm bourbon, cocoa, and vanilla. The medium starts to fall apart with the absence of the base beer qualities while the barrel forwardness runs rampant. Firm creamy bodied from the oatmeat stout but lacking in terms of providing and flavor. Solid mouthfeel. Some dark fruit and extremely tart lightness from the bourbon. Flavors become muted and earthy from middle through finish. Stops short without any followthrough.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL) on the way to Hopleaf event. Exciting and another BA beer crossed off before FoBAB. Pours a rich blackish opaque hue, darker and ominous with a fluffy tannish light brown head atop, sticks as a healthy layer, laces well. Aromas are prominent, offering a healthy dose of Bourbon spirit and oak, vanilla and oatmeal dance with gentle roast, toffee, and biscuits. Some gentle coffee, dry, as the barrel kinda takes over, a powerful nose with some sweeter smore like elements. Initial is medium bodied, offering copious cocoa and toffee up front, biscuits and vanilla, creamy body is a bit thinned out. Decent roast, with a creaminess, nut and earth. After the initial and a few more sips in, I get past a lot of the vanilla and milk chocolate, losing some body into the middle and finish. Finish leaves touches of charred oak and vanilla, some gentle spirit, with a bit of a thinned out body. Roast, toast, and some gentle oatmeal and cocoa, creamy vanilla. A bit underbodied for what itís offering. A vibrant nose and start fades into a more dissappointing finish. Overall, a decent beer but not worth the pricepoint for me compared to other barrel aged stouts. I donít think the barrel or brewer failed here but perhaps the beer was not the best barrel aging candidate as I really liked regular Black Power from what I remember.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at rev, pours black with a tan head. Aroma has wet wood, chocolate and hints of bourbon. Flavors are rather strong whiskey notes that lasts throughout the finish and is rather stale with a cheap quality to it, wow a really unpleasant barrel here or perhaps too much whiskey left over in the barrel, it takes over the beer without imparting more nuanced barrel notes. Its ashy, with some vanilla, some bourbon chocolatels but a clear example of a solid beer just ruined by a barrel.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft... Light black body, light tan head, its a bit watery looking but has good lace and a watery retentive cap... Smooth but sweet aroma, very fruity, some prunes, molasses, bourbon but syrupy, pretty good overall... The taste is ok, its a touch too thin and too sweet, weird coca cola, a little char, lactose sweetness, needs a touch more balance, not a ton of barrel but for added sweetness... Middle of the road for their ba beers
