COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November of 2010, we filled 1 Jack Daniels and 1 Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrel with our Barleywine (Institutionalized). The combination of these two unique barrels yield a very rich and complex finished product. Deep aromas and flavors of dark stone fruits, bourbon, molasses, toasted coconut and vanilla come in waves as you swirl this beer in the snifter.

Future releases, especially the first bottle release saw this offering aged exclusively in Woodford Reserve barrels. This is noted for the 2012 December Release, but will not be seperated out.

Got in a trade with TheFugitive. 22 ounce bottle into snifter bottled on 1/17/2014. Pours hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, and toast/oaky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, and toast/oaky earthiness. Slight tannic oak bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, and oak on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit flavors; with a great malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, fairly slick, and slightly tannic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged English barelywine style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark malt, bourbon barrel, and dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottled, labeled as Straight Jacket Barley Wine, courtesy of cousin Kristen. Pours a dark chestnut red with a thin yet dense tan head. Lightly burnt nose with notes of bourbon, vanilla and pecans - a very thick, pungent and "syrupy" aroma. Vanilla sweetness in the immediate flavor, followed by mellow oak, smooth bourbon, brown sugar, maple sap and roasted nuts. Wow, what a smooth bourbon flavor! There is a lot of residual sweetness which hides the booze almost completely. I could sip this all day (and likely get into trouble).

This poured a caramel color with a white head. Aroma was barrel, caramel and stale hops. Flavor similar, oxidized and not very complex.

Bottle... This beer rocks! Pours lightly hazy and burnt-orange with a tiny, fleeting, white head. The aroma is a malty collage of coconut, vanilla and bourbon accompanied by toasted oak and caramel malts. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor is a rich melding of Caramel, vanilla, toasted oak and buttery toffee. Boozy, caramel and coconut finish. Another world class beer shared by the one, the only, the ever-generous newcigarz! Im really digging the bottles coming out of Revolution. I look forward to more of them.

From a shared 22 ounce bottle. Big boozy bourbon nose followed by the taste and sticky light brown sugar.

A very good sweet Bourbon BW tending towards the sweet and molasses part of the spectrum. Not super complex, doesnt have any real fruitiness for me and lacks a nice spiciness that bourbon can sometimes impart, but definitely worthwhile.

bomber, hated it. Intense unbalanced sugar and sharp malts. Smelt like a hangover, lowest amount of drinkability in this one.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and snifter served, displaying a mahogany brown color, with a presentable layer of off white/light tan head foam, and lacing that was mainly spots. The nose was sweet, dark fruit, lurking alcohol, and barrel induced vanilla. Full bodied, with sufficient carbonation to transport the goodness to the palate, the taste was continued sweetness & dark fruit as prune, a bit of treacle, with a light tartness, and pleasant, bourbony warmth. An excellent brew to sit with and sip.
