COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November of 2010, we filled 1 Jack Daniels and 1 Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrel with our Barleywine (Institutionalized). The combination of these two unique barrels yield a very rich and complex finished product. Deep aromas and flavors of dark stone fruits, bourbon, molasses, toasted coconut and vanilla come in waves as you swirl this beer in the snifter.

Future releases, especially the first bottle release saw this offering aged exclusively in Woodford Reserve barrels. This is noted for the 2012 December Release, but will not be seperated out.

Bottle at the Beechner Blind Beer Bash. Drank as Straight Jacket. Lots of barrel and booze in the nose. some fruitiness. Reminds me of a sweet liquor like cognac or similar. Fruity and moderately chewy malt flavors with some alcohol warming. Lots of fruitiness. This was most everyoneís favorite of the 4 in the blind flight, me included.

22 oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a clear dark copper/red with some khaki edging. Nose is caramel, butterscotch, marshmallow, vanilla, oak, and some warm booze. Taste is similar with lots of oak and vanilla on the finish. Sweet and decadent with a light char. Thin to medium mouth feel, this is a nice warming sipper. Really awesome beer and up there with some of the best BA English b-wines.

Medium-dark brown in color, this true treat looks murky, but mostly just dense. It looks like a simple, thin barleywine, but the nose quickly makes up for that. It smells supremely supreme, mostly alcoholic, soft and slick, with a sticky but soft mouthfeel and candy-like stickiness. Itís unusual in that, well... I just donít know how to describe this. I love it. Itís like licking a cough drop coated in malted barley. A stickiness reminds me of the crystallized alcoholic sugars that collect around the mouth of a flask of Chartreuse. Iíve reviewed alot of beers today, and I think this may be the best of the afternoon. Itís complex, sweet, a little hoppy, and really neither American nor English - a perfect hybrid of the best of both styles.

Bomber thanks to Mittenator. Sweet, lots of vanilla bourbon and really smooth. One of the best from revolution.

Bomber. Garnet with a tan head. Huge nose of sugar, caramel, candi and bourbon. Similar flavors. Great.

Bottle from a trade, believe it was í13. Deep copper. Vanilla, very light bourbon, toffee. Rich toffee and light caramel malt sweetness, light oak and very well integrated bourbon, there but just a supporting cast member. Very nice, smooth barley wine, especially given the ABV.

Bottle (straight jacket) : pour is mahogany with a two finger khaki head present into this glass, with average retention and sticky lacing presence. The nose is bright, with alcohol heat, vanilla bean and coconut presence, which perhaps takes a back seat to dark fruits and caramel malts. The flavor profile reveals a sticky, sweet, and boozy barley wine. The dark fruit presence is dominant, as is the vanilla oak presence. Coconut moves to toffee which moves to more heat, with some mineral and sweetbread, with a lingering bite. Itís nice, perhaps somewhat unrefined, but a nice one

Deep brown with a cream head. Thick and chewy malts, wood, bourbon, alcohol, sticky, and vanilla. Chewy palate, wood, vanilla, sticky malts, alcohol burn, fantastic.

22oz bottle (Straight Jacket) in a tulip. Pours very deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of bourbon and oak, some caramel and toffee and nuttiness and light chocolate from the malts, vanilla, floral hops, light molasses, and hints of alcohol. Flavor the same with an incredible blend of it all. Thick texture. A really good beer.

2 ounce bottle pour at SAVORís Friday night session, labeled as Straight Jacket. Pours a dark caramel brown with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, bourbon. Tasting notes of caramel, toffee, bourbon, dark fruit. Medium body with a dry and warm finish. Paired nicely with some sticky toffee pudding.
