December 28, 2014 - bottle from Famous. Dark brown pour with big head that faded quickly. Aroma and taste of coffee, roasted malt and bourbon. Slight dry and bitter finish. Medium body with minimal carbonation.

Bottle pours dark brown/black with medium tan head. Aroma huge coffee. Coffee dominates the flavor as well, a little chocolate, roast and bourbon. Thin porter palate with high carbonation. Finish coffee.

I wonder if there is some batch variation since this was unbalanced and the coffee was very forward. Pretty good coffee but it really washed out all of the other flavors.

650 ml bottle purchased at Binny’s South loop. Big creamy lasting off white head that Coates the glass. Aroma is big bourbon character with earthy roasted malt, mild coffee and oak.

Flavor is pretty much a carbon copy of the aroma. The body is slightly lean but the flavor is all here. Bourbon forward with the earthy chocolate malts, mild vanilla hints, tones of maple syrup. Mild hints of booze in the finish with a mildly warming sensation after the sip. For a Bourbon Porter with coffee this is damn nice.

Draft sample at the tap room. Solid black, much darker than most porters, understandable since it?s also pretty strong. Smell is mostly the bitterness of a dark roast coffee as the beans come fresh from the roaster; either you like it or hate it. Taste is more bitter coffee, but not as dark roast a coffee as one might look for. Strong alcohol; no doubt about that. Sticky on my lips. This is NOT a Kahlua type drink, but whatever you?d want a beer soaked in coffee to be. Barrel-aging still is apparent in a light vanillin and lignin char taste. But that is all subordinate to the coffee flavout. After a long afternoon of sampling new beers, it?s even worthwhile to contemplate the legs of foam remaining in this small sample glass.

Bottled. Dark brown with red highlights and a small, tan ring of a head. Very strong coffee aroma - incredibly roasty with a bit of cocoa and toasted pecans. Flavors of brief sugar, light molasses, toasted bread, nuts. Very well done.

Bottle in trade. Thanks! Pours black into the glass with a one finger mocha head. Aroma of lots of spicy earthy coffee, bourbon, a bit of roast and fruits, more bourbon. Not much oak or vanilla coming from the barrel integration here, mainly just straight bourbon. Flavor is lots of coffee, some sweet chocolate, big bourbon punch, lingering oak and light vanilla roasted coffee. Medium body with medium carbonation. Not super hot but very bourbon forward flavor here. Gotta like the stuff to like this and it's a bit over the top. Beer really isn't carrying the barrel well.

Back in the USSR, I mean USSA, and went for one of my favorite breweries. Pours a dark black pour with a small java head. Nose is rich malt , coffee and whiskey. Taste is heavy whiskey, coffee with some subtle chocolate. Finish is whiskey again with the same tasting notes and a moderately long finish. Great porter. Quaff Score 9 / 10
