On tap: The aroma consists of roasted coffee, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and a hint of maple syrup. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small all beige head. The flavor starts with chocolate and a touch of caramel. There is a light sugary fruitiness in the background. The finish consists of moderate roasted coffee, vanilla, maple syrup, and bourbon. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2015 Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Joes. Opaque pitch black color, small off-white head. Aroma is malts, huge coffee espresso and bourbon, chocolate and dark chocolate. Oh yeah I love this. Taste malts, roast, dark chocolate, bourbon, espresso, coffee, bitter and chocolate sweet-bitter. Wow this beer is packed with everything I love in a beer! Great stuff! Only one thing that could be improved imo: the body is a bit thin. Incredible that they got this much aroma and flavour in an 8.5% ABV beer but I need this to be more creamy and thick. Still, this is lovely. Delightful.

Bottle @ benzai. Black colour with a small light brown head. Smells bourbon, cognac, almond, alcohol, nuts, very sweet, chocolate, roasty, coffee. Tastes almond, bourbon, watery, vanilla, chocolate, roasty, coffee. Thin to medium body, soft carbo. Smells like a big, mean bold beer but kinda disappoints when it comes to taste and body. Doesn’t make it a bad beer though.

Draft. Onyx. One inch of head the color of graham cracker has decent retention, but becomes a thin top layer eventually. Coffee, vanilla, bourbon and dark chocolate in the nose. The java is like sharp, oily espresso. Tangy, sweet flavor. Coffee is more subdue here, and there’s more sweet bourbon. Beans are again oily, and there’s an almost sour dark cherry thing going on. Rich, bittersweet chocolate. Smooth, with some vanilla and charred oak. Quite warming on the way down. Thinner body than you’d think. A bit too sweet overall, but I like the level of coffee and its balance with the barrel.

Wonderful chocolate coffee aroma. Big foamy head which lingers nicely. Very dark brown with moderate thickness. Taste has an awesome carbonated coffee flavor with a touch of chocolate sweetness on the end. Very nice. Could be thicker.

Bottle share gathering at Bruce’s. Hazy dark red - brown beer, decent tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Smooth and mild dark malts with touches of dark chocolate and coffee. Fruity bourbon, very fruity. Woody dryness and a trace of vanilla. Finishes light and semi dry. Great flavours but they could do with a more luxuriant palate to showcase them.
