3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
[March 14, 2010]
Goblet at the brewpub. Love the name of this beer. It fits the theme of uprising well. Black Power is very dark, thick, and strong in its appearance. Lots of roast, mild fruitiness, brownies, earth and hints at oats are made in the aroma. The hearty and creamy palate is full of milk, rich chocolate, almonds, and a savory oaty smoothness. I am satisfied to see in the description on the site that oats are indeed used in the brewing. Surely my palate is good enough to pick up something that obvious in this beer. Great stout.

On tap - pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa. Good flavor - lots of cocoa and slightly bitter sweet. Good brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Revolution, oddly in a snifter. Pours opaque black with off-tan head. Nose is cocoa, roasty, distant hop notes and grainy. On taste, silky smooth with cocoa coming through. slight oiliness to the mouthfeel as well. Pretty decent, though didn’t care for the vessel...

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at revbrew... Pours a dense black with a hint of red along the edges. Light tan head is thin and creamy... Aroma mostly of slightly charred roasted malt and chocolate... Flavors followed suit quite nicely with lightly roasted malt chocolate and finishes on a slightly fruity note. Carbonation is prickly and the body could have used a little bit of beefing up. That being said, still a pretty good effort.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2010 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a thick deep brown almost black with a small creamy dark beige head. Aroma is rich roasted lightly burnt malts, lots of chocolate, nice little nuttiness and a sweet marshmallow character, Flavor is again, very rich, dark chocolate, a bit milky, nice and bittersweet but smooth at the same time. Some cocoa power towards the finish along with just a hint of dark fruits and a crisp bitterness. Medium to full body and a soft carbonation. Nice very drinkable oatmeal stout.
