Citra Hero is an elegant American IPA designed to showcase the Citra Hop variety.

We utilized 2-row, Pale Ale, Red Wheat and Belgian Aromatic malts to provide a deep golden color and clean malt profile for this hoppy ale. Multiple additions of Citra in the brew kettle infuse this beer with deep layers of citrus aroma and flavor and a clean, crisp yet intense bitterness.

After primary fermentation with our English Ale Yeast we dry-hopped with one pound per barrel of Citra once again to really load this ale up with a burst of fresh citrus fruit.

Weighing in at 7.5% ABV this ale is sturdy enough to hold up to the higher bitterness level but is still quite sessionable and exploding with fresh hop character!

Poured into a snifter. 3.0 A: Medium orange color. Two fingers of foamy, frothy off-white head. Retention is below average and just a wisp or two of lacing is left. 4.25 S: Smells awesome. Jam packed with citrus fruits. Mango, orange, pineapple, even some lemon and papaya. A touch sugary as well with a mild caramel backbone. Really nice. 4.5 T: For as good as it smells, it tastes even better. Has all the fruits mentioned above, except they are amplified. Sweet sugary hops component as well. Caramel and neutral malts. 4.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and supremely smooth. 4.75 D: Citra is for real. ★ 657 characters DavoleBomb, Jul 18, 2015

Lovely transparent pale golden pour. Nose is spicy hop, bit of bandaid, saltine cracker, citrus. Light to medium body, quite a bit of carbonation. Taste is just a touch sweet and caramelly, lots of grapefruit juice and lemon/orange zest. Spicy and citrusy hops, lingering bitterness in the finish. A very nice APA.

Hazy gold amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy with mild fine carbonation. Light malts, mild creamy sweetness. Decent orange hops, mildly spicy. Touches of floralness and mango, more tropical fruits well buried. Light semi dry finish. Nice.

Maltier than I expected but very flavorful, balanced with caramel and toffee above nectarine and tropical stone fruit notes, finishing with citrusy, floral hops that linger long and refresh. Stunned that this is 7.5%.

Citra hero... Are you kidding me? Could this day get any better? So I’m a little jazzed up about this one, which could be a catastrophe if it doesn’t pan out. Pour is ok so far... A nice light orange with s touch of haze and a thin head. Aromas are unexpectedly grassy with a little bit of peach or something. That’s not what I was thinking would happen there... Flavor is really interesting and I am trying to figure it all out. It’s really lovely, but not quite what I hoped for. Here’s what I get: first punch is fruit, I would say peaches that transition to cantaloupe. From there it gets a bit grassy and a little bit skunky and herbal but then things straighten out fairly quickly for a tropical fruit medley in the finish. ABV is nicely hidden and just a hint of warmth is there. Mouthfeel is smooth and has a slight tingle from the carbonation in the late finish. Very fine beer, but it doesn’t match my Citra expectations.
