COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our robust porter was sent to the bright tank and aged with whole bean coffee. We used the Dark Matter ’Revolution blend’. The cold aging allows us to extract the aromatic oils from the coffee w/o extracting any additional bitterness that it may impart if we added it to the near boiling wort in the kettle.

Draft at revolution. Somewhat flat, black pour. All about the coffee. Huge coffee flavor, underlying porter roastiness and touches of chocolate. Coffee dominated. Nice beer

Tap. Slightly tan head on a black body with brownish edges. Loads of fresh dark roast coffee, toast and sligt malted milk in the aroma. Fresher pressed coffee, but nowhere near acrid or to bitter, slight milk chocolate sweetness in the middle with a dry toasty finish. Lighter bodied.

Wow, there’s a lot of coffee in this aroma, even in the small pours that we had. I enjoy this aroma a lot. Flavour is not quite as intense, but still good. I enjoyed this beer.

Crazy good intense coffee aroma, much more dramatic than I was expecting, and even though I don’t drink coffee, this was very enjoyable.

The base is an even tempered, nicely crafted Porter that I have enjoyed a number of times, and reviewed previously. This fuller bodied and amped version fit perfectly into the excellent beer & food celebration which was the15th Annual Chicagoland Brewpub Shootout. Tapped to my event glass with a black/brown hue, and stubborn to dissipate, light tan head foam and lacing, the nose was roasty, and expressively robust & fresh espresso scent, with just touches of cocoa, and smoke/woodiness. The flavor presented appropriate malt content, the solid but diminished stature for the cocoa, and a medium, earthy hop bitterness that also balanced in well. One of my favorite brews of the event, and showcased extremely well with a spicy, mocha sundae, with Guajillo ice cream, topped with Porter sprinkles.

Growler. This one is just a coffee barrage. I woke up the next morning after drinking a lot of beers after this one and i still tasted it. Just coffee up the ass if you like that.

On tap at their new brewery. This was the only beer which they refused to sell in growlers. Poured a very dark brown, almost black with a moderate tan head and good lacing. I like my coffee very strong and black, so I loved the aroma of this one, which also has roasted malts, dark chocolate, toffee, and a hint of hops. Body is full without too much carbonation. Taste was sweet with only slight bitterness in the aftertaste. I hope I get a chance to try this one again.

Had on tap at Rev. Poured into a 5oz Mug Club taster. Pours a dark chocolate color with a nice and foamy head. The coffee addition is readily apparent. It is also backed up by a good amount of roasted malts, dark chocolate and some toffee as well. Full bodied with an extremely good and polished feel. Excellent depth with a good amount of roasted coffee flavors as well as malts, and dark chocolate. An even better version of eugene. Rich, but without being overtly and very well balanced.

On draft at brewey, poured a dark black color, with aromas of cold pressed coffee, roasted malt and light earth. Flavors are roasted malt, coffee, and balanced. Really nice beer overall.

Pint-sized pour consumed at the brewpub... Pours a mostly opaque and murky deep brownish black hue, rather homogenous throughout, and topped with a thin to Leary creamy light khaki head that reduces down gradually... Aroma of freshly ground coffee beans, not too roasty just genuine coffee focused. A light metallic tinge comes into play late but fades quickly... Flavors deviates very little from what the aroma offered up. Smooth coffee flavors, light roast and cocoa accompaniments. Coffee clears outmidway through leaving more if the base porter to take it’s stronghold with the malt focus. Biitersweetness throughout endin in a soft bitter note. Body is medium or just shy of with mild prickly carbonation. Solid overall.
