Our robust porter was sent to the bright tank and aged with whole bean coffee. We used the Dark Matter ’Revolution blend’. The cold aging allows us to extract the aromatic oils from the coffee w/o extracting any additional bitterness that it may impart if we added it to the near boiling wort in the kettle.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Poured into an unmarked bottle pint glass. Coffee Eugene pours a pitch black in color with about a fingers worth of toasted marshmallow colored head. The nose is packed full of iced coffee goodness, with subtle vanilla and chocolate in the background. Flavor is again packed with iced coffee, vanilla, and rich chocolate. This actually has quite a bit more chocolate in it than the regular Eugene, it balances the coffee well. Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little on the lighter side, dry, and has a long finish. Another solid beer from Revolution. This is a great variation on an already great base beer. Supposedly they are planning on bottling this....can’t wait.

On tap at Dutch’s. Near-black color.. Kind of clear red around the edges. Little tan head, leaving decent bits (somewhat loose bits) of lace. Great coffee aroma up front, some dark chocolate, moderately roasty. Bigger bitter taste, lighter sweet. Seems a bit more bitter than regular Eugene to me, but also with a very pronounced coffee addition, which I’m loving. Medium-plus body, mild chewiness. Kind of mild slick. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Great coffee-forward porter... No shortage of coffee here, and I very much appreciate that

On tap, poured into a shaker. The aroma is a bright roasted coffee hint with a light chocolate backing note as well as cookie dough. The aroma of lactose sugar strengthens later in the drink. The beer is dark and opaque with a brown-black hue and a tan, soapy head. A moderate webby lace is left on the glass and the medium soapy ring and splotchy surface slowly dissipate until just traces of each remain. The taste is medium sweet up front and medium bitter at the finish. A fizzy carbonation helps to thin out the syrupy texture. The medium-full body contains plenty of fresh roasted coffee, ground coffee beans, chocolate, and a hint of nuts. The finish is syrupy with notes of dark chocolate and a light spice (anise maybe). The aftertaste is coffee, roasted nuts, lactose, and a light licorice; it’s lightly astringent and sticky, and doesn’t last too long.

On tap from firkin. Pours black with tan head. Great coffee nose with some chocolate. The lack of carbonation from the firkin does this no favors. Flat, cold coffee taste. Almost unpleasant. Think it would be better if it weren?t from a firkin.

Black pour no head. Crazy strong coffee aroma. Tastes is lots of coffee with th a hint of beer. One of the strongest beers coffee wise, second only to hbi. Really tasty. Only complaint is the lack of body.

Pint pour. Pours a dark black with a thin beige head. Phenomenal nose. Complex sweet and roasted malts with coffee strong and delicious. Body is a little light for a porter. The coffee, burnt malts, and chocolate flavors are balanced and tasty. A great coffee porter.

Draft at revolution. Somewhat flat, black pour. All about the coffee. Huge coffee flavor, underlying porter roastiness and touches of chocolate. Coffee dominated. Nice beer

Tap. Slightly tan head on a black body with brownish edges. Loads of fresh dark roast coffee, toast and sligt malted milk in the aroma. Fresher pressed coffee, but nowhere near acrid or to bitter, slight milk chocolate sweetness in the middle with a dry toasty finish. Lighter bodied.
