COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

LSU Gameday Tasting. Was more reminiscent of a brown ale than porter in every aspect. Can - Shared at Tasting

Pours black, finger of thick khaki head. Aroma rich, roast, chocolate, coffee, bready malt. Taste roast most pronounced, smokey, chocolate, coffee and earthy hops in background. Mouthfeel on full side, lower carbonation, dry finish. Overall tasty, complex solid, well made beer.

Nice aroma of chocolate, molasses, and some coffee. Nice black pour with a tan head. Sweet roasted malt is the first hit. Balanced well with a smooth bitterness on the end. Slick mouth feel, finishes with a nice dry bitterness....some of the sweetness lingers nicely also. Strong offering.

From a bottle. Delicious, on the light side, but full of flavor. Creamy mouthfeel, very fresh.

Quickly desalinating light brown in a dark black/brown body. Decent brew made with lake Michigan water which I feel and have heard is a great way to start the process. I feel it is a bit light on malts as well as hops, or would of rated much higher.

Can via trade. Frank or rxeight. Can’t remember. can to snifter. ton of milk chocolate in the nose up front. fades a little quickly and leaves a darker more bitter chocolate aroma. medium light brown head on a dark brown beer. Taste is initially quite bitter with a light chocolate and dark chocolate flavor. upon second sip it all comes together to reveal a very balanced bitter and milky chocolate harmony. semi sweet finish that quenches the palate. no noticeable alcohol. very solid beer.

Outed from can. Opaque brown with a non existent head and ruby hints. Aroma of chocolate, olives and malts. Flavour is dark malts and sweetness on the edges of a nicely bitter and hot finish. Great.

Can poured into tulip. Clear dark brown with light brown foamy head. Mild roast nutty aroma. Light roast coffe and nut flavor. Actually kind of bland in the flavor department. Smooth and immensely drinkable though.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/11/2013. Pours fairly cloudy nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin ring of lace that lingers. Minimal lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, raisin, plum, cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of dark/roast/bready malt notes with light-moderate fruitiness; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, dark bread, light coffee, herbal, light raisin/plum, and toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, dark bread, light coffee, light raisin/plum, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt flavors with light yeast fruitiness; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice porter. Good balance and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt flavors with light yeast fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.
